Texsox
On almost every list of great free agent signings is Fisk to the White Sox. On some worst free agent signing lists is Navarro for $20 mil. I thought Belle played well, 79 home runs and all.
Boxer83080
Add the trades on this too...How bout the Todd Ritchie trade...or of course the David Wells trade...
southsider2k5
Loiaza was the best bargin ever as a FA for the Sox. Runner up Cy Young for $500,000.
KWs OK for Me
My opinion, one of the worst trades of all time, none other than Keith Foulke for Billy Koch! Need I say more
knightni
Yeah, but this thread is about FA signings. Not bad trades. The Sox never really did much in the FA market until the last few years. They are usually too cautious to sign free agents to huge deals. Belle was the only FA where they have splurged. Navarro was traded for, as were Ritchie and Wells.

santo=dorf
Navarro was a free agent signing. And didn't he sign for 5 years $25 million? Of course Ron Schueler picked him up because he thought Clemens was washed up. :rolly

knightni
My bad, I thought Navarro was traded from Brewers. Well, they needed a SP. Who woulda thought that he would have self-destructed.

Nah, that was us trading him to the Brewers...
thomsonmi
The best has to be Carlton Fisk. That was a huge moment in White Sox history. Greg Luzinski was an awful big deal too but I can't remember if he came as a free agent.
gsoxs1
My opinion, one of the worst trades of all time, none other than Keith Foulke for Billy Koch! Need I say more I don't think this trade can be the worst of all time. Yes I do agree that Koch was a waste of space, no doubt there. I do believe the sox wouldn't of been able to resign Foulke. At least we still got Cotts in that deal. The verdict is still out on him but we still have something. Worst trade of all time has to be the Ritchie trade. We have nothing to show for that. The Wells for Sikortka trade is a wash. No body made out there.
thomsonmi
Best trades... Lamar Hoyt for Ozzie Guillen. It was almost like the White Sox knew something about Lamar. It was perfect timing. Hoyt's career was imploding and Ozzie's was just starting. QUIZ: Who's the White Sox scout who's often given credit for finding Ozzie Guillen? Hatchetman
Quiz: Jerry Krauss The FA signing that pissed me off the most was giving up a #1 pick to sign Sandy Alomar (the first go-around).
thomsonmi
Quiz: Jerry Krauss It may have been a easy quiz but it's still an interesting fact. Maybe Krause focused on the wrong sport later in his career.
jasonxctf
im going to say Mike Sirotka for David Wells. I know Wells didnt have a good year, but how many IP has Mike thrown since the trade?
jasonxctf
whoops my bad. FA Signings not trades. Sorry.
Steve Bartman's my idol
Don't forget, Richie Zisk, Oscar Gamble, Floyd Bannister, Julio Cruz via trade.
YASNY
Zisk cost the Sox Gossage and Forster. I think Gamble was a trade acquisition also. Banny was a FA signing, iirc.
A.J.
really the last year Jerry opened his wallet, was when we signed the 2 worse cancers to have belle and navarro.
CanOfCorn
really the last year Jerry opened his wallet, was when we signed the 2 worse cancers to have belle and navarro. That would scare anyone into keeping that wallet shut.
hammerhead johnson
Worst FA signing in recent White Sox history: Jose Paniagua Worst trade ever: Believe it or not, the White Flag trade. Keith Foulke and five guys who are no longer in the majors....we could have done so much better, in retrospect. Actually, I think that Bob "Butt" Howry is still on some 40 man roster...I know that he's been injured.

Holy crap, I just checked his numbers from last year. Right-handers only hit .169 against him on the season. I never even noticed.
