aboz56
I know this should be a pretty popular one, so here goes my official predictions... CF Scott Podsednik LF Aaron Rowand RF Jermaine Dye 1B Paul Konerko DH Carl Everett 3B Joe Crede SS Juan Uribe C Ben Davis/Jaime Burke 2B Willie Harris That is my projection for now, until a signing is made. (also assuming Frank starts the year on the DL, as speculated) Interested to know what all of the others think...
Molto
switch Rowand and Podsednik's positions and Dye and Konerko's spots in the batting order. Rowand deserves the CF spot and I don't want to see Konerko and Everett running back to back. LF Podsednik SS Uribe DH Thomas 1B Konerko LF Dye CF Rowand 3B Crede C Davis/Burke 2B Harris Personally I might take heat for this, but I think Willie handles the bat like a better two hitter than either Uribe or Rowand. Aaron is a great hitter, but he cannot bunt to save his life, and I don't remember him swinging the other way to try to move a runner over. Uribe is a better bunter, but the samething as Aaron, you never see him swing to move over a runner. Harris is the best bunter of the 3, and he is a much better directional hitter than Juan or Aaron. He also is the only lefty which would let him swing at the hole with SPod on first base. It would also give him a much better advantage in the hit and run. As for bottom of the line up speed, Rowand and Uribe can swipe the bases they need to. Aaron almost led this team in steals last year. Willie Harris has never proved that he can bunt for a sacrifice. Also, I feel that Rowand is very good at hitting the ball the opposite way. A big problem I've seen with Willie so far is that he doesn't hit the ball hard enough to get it through a hole on the right side. Rather, everything is a weak grounder to 2b. fathom
May I give this advice to Ozzie: If our lineup shapes up with Podsednik, and then either Uribe or Rowand, DONT HAVE THEM BUNT if Podsednik is on first base. We all saw last year how many times Ozzie had our players bunt in similar situations. With Podsednik, he has a very good chance at stealing 2nd base. With no outs, and him on 2nd, I would have less of a problem with Ozzie having Uribe bunt. However, there's no reason to give up an easy out with Uribe or Rowand, two of our most dangerous hitters. witesoxfan
If the lineup stayed the way it is right now(I do not think it will...just a hunch)... Pods - LF Uribe - SS Rowand - CF Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Everett - DH Crede - 3B Davis - C Harris - 2B when Frank comes back... Pods - LF Rowand - CF Thomas - DH Konerko - 1B Dye - RF Uribe - SS Crede - 3B Davis - C Harris - 2B with Everett in as a guy who comes in and plays all 3 OF spots. I just get the feeling that the bench will not be Everett, Timo, Burke, Gload, and Valdez to start the year. No way do we go into the year with no backup 3Bman(unless you count Burke and Valdez, and quite honetly, I don't)...I just think there will be more moves involved around the bench. I still could see Everett being dealt and having Gload be the DH/1B type at the beginning of the year until Frank gets back. Think about it...if we are even in the Clement picture(mind you, I don't think we sign him, just saying we are in it), that will cost us atleast $10-11 mill, plus we are looking at Pierzynski, who will probably get like $3-4 mill...that is between $13-15 mill, and the Sox have like $10 mill available if they are willing to go to the $75 mill threshold. If they can get those 2 for $14 mill...that if $4 mill over. Guess how much Everett makes. I have no sources...this is just some whacky-ass speculation on my part.
