Hatchetman
In terms of difficulty to play defensively C>SS>CF>2B>3B>RF>LF>1B In theory, Jose should be all right heading right on the little chart is much easier than moving left. that's a nice little theory in general, i think bill james made up, but it doesn't necessarily hold for particular players. fisk, for example, sucked in LF. i suppose if you gave him a couple of years he'd get the hang of it, but no time for that in the majors. Yeah, I just said in terms of defensive dificulty, you're not going to move your slow ass catcher to CF, (though the move has been made before). In terms of offensive production it's almost always the opposite -- The recent run of great SS's are the exception to the rule, but it would probably look like this DH>1B>LF>RF>3B>CF>2B>SS>C

AngelasDaddy0427
While it'll miss Jose for his attitude and other things I am glad to see him go. I couldn't stand to see him hit .210 again. Good luck Jose...

JoshPR
Haha, nice move LA. HUH!!! Why the sarcasm?? Valentin was all class when he played here. Yes it was time to move on. But i hate when people treat Jose like s***. Maybe he wasn't the best hitter on the Team, but he played hard and with a lot of passion. I for one i'm greatfull for Jose' 5 seasons in a Sox UNI :headshake JOSE

jackie hayes
Not going by stats on this, just from watching him play I knew there were at least 2 people who didn't want him to play 3B -him and me. I'm not sad that Valentin is gone, but I'm betting he has a much better year in 2005. (And there aren't many people who think your way, Wsf56, but I don't think you're the only one. Btw, for all y'all squinting at the screen, fingers poised on the "y", yeah I used 'em right, so buzz off.) My pet theory is that he worked on the wrong thing in his walk year. Remember last winter and in st he was focusing on hitting lhp better than he has in the past. He succeeded at that -- compare his stats vs lhp in 2004 to his stats in 2003 and 2002. But his hitting vs rhp suffered, and b/c everyone hits more rhp anyway, his overall numbers slumped badly. Hopefully, one more year of work, or (more likely) just accepting that he'll always suck against lhp will get him back on track. Best of luck, Jose. Chisoxfn
Bahhaaa. I love it, just to spite my dad. Now we'll both be bummed out over the weekend over the patheticness of our two teams. Jose Valentin...there solution to Beltre, ROLF. Valentin is a hasbeen. Lousy as all get up offensively...minus the homers and incredibly selfish. Good riddance. jackie hayes
It couldn't get much worse...Way to go out on a limb. Okay, okay... He was still, btw, better than Timo in every respect. That stadium in LA won't help him, so I won't say his numbers will compare to his best w/ the Sox. But I think he has .320+ obp and .450+ slg. His fielding, I'm sceptical about the claim that he'll adapt. Despite what Cheat says, I think Jose's tools (sorry, stats people) aren't as useful at third. He's got bad hands, but good range and a strong arm. It seems to me that hands is a more important skill at 3b, and a strong arm less important, than at ss, b/c the ball gets on you so quick. (I don't have evidence to back this up, so I'm open to argument on that.) So I think his fielding will be justly criticized. Good enough? Chisoxfn
What can I say, I just don't see the Sox able to do anything now. Kenny backed himself into a corner and now JR is gonna have to let the man spend his money. At this point piss it away for all I care. They started this offseason with a need for a starter and they shoudln't hope some great pitcher gets non-tendered. If I hear Kenny talking about Grilli and Diaz other then trade bait at Soxfest I'm gonna yack.

As I said earlier, fire up the ROULETTE WHEEL. In fact, I think my first question to KW will be: Why are you letting us going into another season with a Roulette Wheel for a 5th starter? If he doesn't give me a satisfying answer, I will use a Steff phrase, I'M NOT DONE YET and continue on with more questions.
Chisoxfn
I'm gonna ask him about Joey McCarthy and see if he responds to that. Then I'll make a Berry/Barry reference. The guy should know the first names of Bmac and Tracey.

Jake
yea, i am in the minority, but what are you gona do, i liked his attitude, the way he played. but it was time to move on. when we play LA and he comes to bat i will give him a standing ovation, then i will be hoping he will strike out for the benefit of the sox. i liked his offense even more than his awesome defense he's a good guy, sure, but so is my next door neighbor. witesoxfan
We aren't trading Konerko. It was either Lee or Paulie and they shipped out Carlos. Just wondering, what makes you think this? I do not think trading PK is out of the realm of possibility...in fact, I think it is a very real possibility. KW has not come out and said that PK will not be traded. I also understand that JR said that Ross Gload is not a starter...that's fine by me too. There are other 1Bman on the market correct? And, just to let it be known...I do understand it is educated speculation. Odds are good PK does end up back in Chicago next year. Doesn't mean it will happen. Basically...I am just saying do not rule out KW trading PK. There is a possibility of it.
