Did you not say yourself, earlier today, Williams must move quickly? I can honestly visualize a snag occuring in this trade (ie; Penny failing physical) in which everything falls apart and we're left with our pants down. We're better served exploring other options then waiting for this neverending trade to become finalized. Yup, that's what I said. But I don't run a baseball team, nor do my wishes make things happen. I'm just stating what was said in the papers. If it takes time, it takes time. Meanwhile, they should get the catching situation solved because that has nothing to do with this whole RJ transaction. Buerhle's was 3.89, and Contreras' 5.30 and Garlands' 4.89. The team is still going to have to score runs. Vazquez's era was 4.91, actually .02 higher than Garland's. Giving up Konerko, Marte and Garland and having to pay his entire salary makes little sense. You still have a hole in the 5th starter role. You weaken your bullpen significantly. Despite what Ozzie thinks, Marte is a stud, and your offense suddenly becomes maybe the worst in the AL. Does this mean they offer Schoenweiss arbitration, give him Marte's role and listen to him b**** about it all season? Does this mean Frank becomes the everyday first baseman? Do they teach Everett how to play first? That wouldn't be consistent with the pitching and defense philosophy. Unless KW has something lined up to upgrade the offense, this move seems very odd. He will sign Delgado.. I think if KW trade Konerko,Marte and Garland we will get alot m ore back than just Vasquez THATS WHAT IAM TALKING ABOUT BRO!!!!!!!!!!! I agree, this really doesn't make a lot of sense unless other things are lined up. Its just dumb. We are stupid many times, as Money drives most of our decisions, but really this isn't even baseball worthy. My personal opinion even though I can't stand Willie harris, Ross gload or konerko, would be to keep these guys add AJ a fifth starter and a utility infielder and call it a day. The only other thign I cna think of is they want to get rid of Konerko in a contract year knowing they don't want to pay him more next year. If the deal is Konerko for Vasquez straight up.... I could live with that, assuming were going to be spending some of that money were sitting on. Yea he said, since they are already doing it, why don't you just go for it. remember konerko is in his final year, we could lose him next year or he could command 10 million. I really don't think the sox would want to pay him. I still think you need to get a 25 hr guy if you lose Konerko. Small ball or not, you need guys to hit HR's. Not with the last few years when he would put up Jeckle and Hyde seasons. I like Konerko, I think he is probably the best fastball hitter I have seen in a while. But most of his homers are Cell induced. He is slow, remember how many of you b****ed and moaned either how slow he was or how he is a base clogger. I figured that Konerko would be dealt. I never thought for a million years that both Kong and Lee would be dealt in the same offseason. If we do lose Kong to this, we need to sign AJ and get a first baseman. Davis needs to be a personal catcher or Burke needs to be a personal catcher. Maybe also get Palanco. Vasquez+whatever else they throw in+palanco+FA 1st basemen+visquino+pods>Lee&Konerko I get as frustrated with Paulie as anybody... he is a streaky hitter (last year he broke out of that somewhat), and he seems to be way to hard on himself, which I believe puts him in prolonged slumps.... but if he moves the Sox have to add another 20-30 homer bat.... I have been consistant , I ahte konerko but we do need some Long balls going out. AJ is fine, this should be done with or without konerko. Kong might not be the fastest guy on the team, but his is all about team. He is a standup guy. Thats the only thing to me that sucks in this deal.
