NY Rumors about Vazquez

we losing firepower, but its not the same as were trying to replace the power hitters with less talented power hitters.... were losing power by choice, because were trying to build a team built on the concept that they can score on a more consistent basis.

were losing what you call fire power but were gaining speed and defense.... which is just another type of firepower.

Good post man... I think that people fall in love with fantasy stats and skew their vision of baseball lineups (And before I get any nasty replies, I fall victim to this too).

Look at the Cubs lineup... they lead or were near the lead in major categories, except when push came to shove they could not generate a run and lost a lot of

3-2, 2-1 and other close games... KW's model is the 2003 Marlins, whether he can achieve that or not is open for debate, but I think that's what he is shooting for...

But we're also counting on guys like Harris, and Gload and Davis to produce for a full season, which thus far they haven't done. Also, Uribe and Crede can't go into the prolonged funks they have gone into every season of their careers. Podsednick has to prove scouts and fans wrong, and prove he's not a total fluke. Jermaine Dye has to turn back the clock 4 or 5 years. Rowand can't drop off at all. Frank has to come back and be what he was in 2003 and the beginning of 2004 before his injury. He played injured a couple weeks and his average really dropped. He was around .300. If all those things happen, the Sox offense will still be middle of the pack at best in the AL. The pitching staff won't have any glaring weakness, unless there is an injury, but they aren't exactly loaded with dominant guys.

I put a lot of this blame on f***ing Ozzie Guillen.  His stupid desire to play smallball in the American League in a massive homer park is going to screw this team.  He would rather have mediocre/average players like Willie Harris or Scott Podsednik that can run than players that can actually hit a 3-run homer.  Hey, we're getting what a lot of people warned us about when we signed him....Ozzie wants players that play like he did when he was here (and he sucked as a hitter!).

I agree too. Ozzie was also talking about getting rid of guys last year who didn't play the game "right." IIRC, he wasn't impressed with Marte, which is the only reason I can understand why the Sox could trade him. Hell I wouldn't doubt if Vizquel was signed, Willie would've been dumped for nothing with Uribe as the everday second baseman and Valdez being the Utility guy.

Bruce Levine coming on ESPN Radio right now at 10:30 am central.  Lead in said rumor is not true????  Let' hope so.

You have to take all reports with a grain of salt, and Levine has gone through his dry spells as much as anyone, but he's been really good this off-season...

and to defend Gammons (can't believe I wrote that) even he said something along the lines of not believing the reports, even though he was hearing them too...

Levine says he talked to a high ranking White Sox official, and they are not in it.

And also says the whole RJ thing is a ways from being done.

Like I said this morning, the 72 hr. window to extend contracts also comes into effect. It will take a while.

Trading garland for Vasquez for garland makes no f***ing sense....

Garland makes 3 mil this season... and had a lower ERA last year...

I dont see it

He makes $3.4 million, and his ERA was .02 less than Vazquez's. :rolly

I know Vazquez doesn't pitch at the Cell, but he wasn't healthy in the second half, or he had f***ed up mechanics. Look at their career stats and tell me who you would rather have for the next 3 years.

Which is what makes Ozzie a terrible manager in some respects...

He'd rather have some bum who has no hope of getting better then letting guys with real talent like Harris, Diaz, or Marte work out their issues.

I know the reason he hates Harris is because he's exactly the same player Ozzie was, even the cocky attitude. Diaz I can't figure it our because he's lightyears ahead of Grilli. Marte, Ozzie needs some help! :banghead
