The problem with contracting them is that they would have to contract another team as well, or teams would have 3 days off every now and then. I read somewhere they will wind up in Virginia, and not play at RFK if this latest issue isn't resolved. Las Vegas is the sleeping giant. As soon as either MLB or the NBA puts a team there, the other will quickly follow. I heard that when Las Vegas put their proposal to MLB together they had a little video presentation. During the presentation, when a member of the Vegas team hit a homer, the scoreboard played a giant slot machine coming up all 7's. That was frowned upon. I also heard that their stadium had a massive number of suites, and not that many seats figuring that the casino's would buy suites for their VIPs. We don't have to worry about a park built for the Expos, so the biggest issue is jobs (not the players, but front office, staff, scouts, janitors, vendors, etc) and only one empty ballpark. The competition has become watered down with guys who shouldn't be in the league. Its tough for a city to lose a team, but why do cities only seem to care when they're about to lose the team. I for one wouldn't miss them... :rolly Yah, but it was seemingly to scare the city of Minneapolis into giving them a ballpark, then the team has torn up the AL Central, so they're not going anywhere. Yeah, I'd assume that there'd be a draft....after the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs had their pick of the rosters, of course...don't have a clue what the draft order would be, but I'd guess won-lost record of the previous year, worst to best. And I've been reading a lot of stories saying that the owners definitely have a hard-on to contract next year because of the clause in the CBA that allows them to do so without the players' consent. The ExpoNationals would be gone, along with ( most likely ) Tampa Bay. Of course, the Sox would probably only wind up with a reserve infielder and a middle reliever anyway, so no looking ahead to the savior, okaaaaaayyy??? Well, they're definitely still under contract until MLB makes some sort of decision to contract or eliminate the ExpoNationals. Wherever MLB decides to place them, the guys would have to play there. It's only at contraction time that the validity of the contracts comes into question. And DC still has until New Year's Eve to iron out a stadium agreement, as bleak as that situation seems. Away games would be played as scheduled, but where would the intended home games be played? It's a lot harder than just making everything an away game, as far as the logistics of having all the stadiums staffed and ready to go, having enough police on duuty, not having conflicting events planned, etc. It would be murder on the team as well. As cool as I thought it was to have a bunch of the Expos home games played at Hiram Bithorn the last two years, I know it wore the players out.
