Watched Harsh Times last night in a theater practically 25% filled, and must admit, it exceeded way beyond my expectations. Christian Bale deserves an Oscar nomination. Not that he'll defeat the overwhelming favorte Forest Whitaker, but he deserves recognition nonetheless.

all i can say is I agree with you. I was freaked at the end.....I wouldn't say he was a bad guy i just think he was caught by his demons. saying the devil on his shoulder took control i guess. He's got that Rescue Dawn movie coming too....so if not this than that movie could throw a nomination his way. Great actor, one of my favorites

Has anyone seen Donnie Darko (I'm sure)...

has anyone seen Donnie Darko Director's Cut?

The former is hard to understand....the latter makes MUCH more sense... that could be because I've seen the movie 6-7 times, though.

Director commentary fit everything together.

I don't know your interpretation, but most people --including myself -- seem to believe that Gyllenhal avoiding the airliner's engine tampered with the natural order of the universe. He was supposed to die, and because he averted death, the entire fabric of space was jeopardized. Anothere explanation I hear people mention is the entire film was merely a prophetic dream, and Gyllenhal smiled in his bed because he was relieved it wasn't real.

I'm going to be rather prophetic myself right here and guess you bringing Donnie Darko is entirely due to the latest XBOX360 commercial featuring the REM song. I can't be the only one who heard it during the promo for "Gears of WAr" and immediately thought of the movie. :D :cheers

yeah, I was in a movie watching mood tonight after the gym, so I threw it in. (subconsciously the xbox commercial made me watch the film and not buy the game...better luck next time microsoft) I had never watched the director's cut. It made the movie 30 minutes longer, and there were a lot of great scenes.

The director's cut included snippets from the book Donnie was reading, and the very last page it showed focused on this line "Some of the people who were living in the divergent world will not remember it happened." (my paraphrase)

That totally opened my eyes to the "Mad World" segment where the actors are responding to their "dreams" they just had. Some of them remember what happened and some of them don't.

I remember the official website being very interesting, fwiw. Great movie.

Thought so too. But the song is by Gary Jules not REM.

Here's what appears to be a pretty good explanation of the movie: http://www.vegsource.com/talk/books/messages/12158.html (SPOILERS!)

Every sub plot and character is interesting and developed really well.

I'd like to see that, I've heard nothing but great reviews.

I've also never wanted to see a Bond movie, but I kind of want to see Casino Royale.

sweet, i like when writers try to take difficult characters like a former sex offender and make them a complete character, not just a drooling child molester. Like peter lorri in M. Awesome performance. You hate this guy the entire time and they almost make you sympathetic for him at the end. It's brilliant.

See 'Lillte Children" and if you honestly tell me you didn't enjoy it, I'll buy the new Dinosaur Jr. for you. :P
