Chisoxfn Posted April 2, 2003 Share Posted April 2, 2003 SN Report: Sports Authority Approves U.S. Cellular Name By Mario Scalise April 1, 2003 SoxNet.net The Illinois Sports Facilities Authority approved the naming change from Comiskey Park to U.S. Cellular Field on Monday, making the 20-year $68 million deal official. Following the approval, the White Sox revealed the rennovations that will be ready on opening day, Friday, April 4 against the Detroit Tigers. The renovations include three new video screens: One being a "state-of-the-art" scoreboard screen in center, which is almost twice the size of the one previous; along with two 300-foot-long LED video display screens along the front of the upper deck that will be the largest continuous video ribbon boards in MLB and the highest-resolution video ribbons in professional sports. Other changes to the ballpark are as follows: >A "fan deck" was built on the center-field concourse. The fan deck, which will be open to all fans, will consist of patio tables, food and beverages. >The outfield concourse canopy has been painted a dark gray, while pedestrian ramps and seating area concrete has been stained dark gray. >A brick overlay and stainless steel countertops have been added to the outfield and upperdeck concourses, matching the lowerdeck concourse renovations of last season. >Iron gateways and lamps were added above aisles in the outfield.
