maggsmaggs
I think the Sox should try and trade for Cruz or sign El-Duque. Orlando would command only $3-4 million per year, which would let us sign A.J or Cairo. I think he would be a very good pitcher in our rotation, he only went 8-2 with a 3.30 era and no body within the Sox talks about (unless Kenny is under the radar with him). If all else fails why not try and trade for Cruz: Now he has depth and power in the pen after Octavio Dotel with Huston Street, Jairo Garcia, Cruz, Calero, Ricardo Rincon and Chad Bradford; he already has a pretty good trade offer for Cruz. Oh yes. The five players other than Bradford he acquired will cost less than $2 million in 2005. Billy Beane's pen is pretty filled, so he might look to trade Juan, you could probably get him with Willie Harris and a young pitcher. Dunno, but I don't want Grilli starting for the Sox. gsoxs1
Billy Beane just traded Hudson for Cruz. What makes you think he wouldbe intrested in anything the SOxs have. He just gave up his stup P for the guy.
maggsmaggs
The big part of that trade for the A's was Dan Meyer, who was the Braves top pitching prospect after Cappellan and they got Charles Thomas who is going to start for them. Don't get me wrong, they think Cruz is good, but he wasn't the main guy in the trade.
southsider2k5
I wouldn't mind the Sox signed Hernandez to an incentive laced deal with a team option for 06.
AnthraxFan93
Signing El-Duque is a risk, but could pay off, and I think he would be a good fit on the southside. I agree, Would be a risk to ink him, but I would not mind that risk..Keeping Diaz in the pen this year IMO would help him down the road.. Diaz, should go into this year learning another pitch, Fast, Change..and either a Curve or a Split, the kid needs an out pitch.

Both have until Jan. 8 to re-sign with New York. Guest JimH
El Duque's goal is to get a two year contract - it wouldn't surprise me if the Sox gave him a 2 year offer. Brian Cashman said they wouldn't bring him back unless there was a clear cut spot for him in their rotation. The Mets might be a fit for him, or the Marlins, or the White Sox. He knows how to pitch. Listed age is 35, he's older. Things I've read over the years suggest he's 3 years older (38). Torre likes him a great deal, says El Duque always keeps himself in fantastic shape. A pro's pro. If they can't land somebody for the top end of the rotation, he'd be a good fit.
EvilJester99
The pitcher I would like to see the Sox try and get is Kevin Millwood...if he is healthy the guy is a total horse. Major innings eater and can be a solid #1 or #2 pitcher. I think he would be a major bargin and possibly sign for only 1 maybe 2 years because he has to prove he is healthy. JMO I would not mind Millwood in here, esp if healthy and with the right pitching coach IMO..everyone knows that Mazzio(sp) can turn crap into gold..once he left him Millwood mechanics looked like s***.. I think Cooper can fix that..for the right price.
nitetrain8601
I would go with El Duque as a more realistic option on the Southside. Milwood would still command top dollars.
JoshPR
Problem with Millwood is that he's homer happy. He gives them up in Bunches. Not that Colon didn't either

hi8is
ive seen the duke pitch a couple times and he has the ability to be unhittable i would give him 2 years, incentive laced, club option for 2007 about 3 mil a season, insentives up to an extra 2 mil per season ive been saying this all along, hope it comes to pass. JoshPR
El Duque would push the team age Average up some. I swear El Duque is gotta be at least 42 43.
AngelasDaddy0427
Yes to El Duque if he comes at a reasonable cost. Also deferred dollars and inventives. No to Cruz. He hasn't proven himself to be a consistant starter yet. We don't need another pen arm...
