southsideirish71
I dont know if I agree on his placement of Sweeney. But he is pushing BMAC and Anderson as tops. Foxsports on our prospects
aboz56
Nothing against him personally, but this "Dayn" character probably knows jack s*** about our farm system. I'd bet that several of our posters, including Rex, dan, Jas, Cerb, DBaho and several others know more than this character. I kinda dismissed this as garbage as soon as I saw Honel still in the top 10 and Young that far ahead of Sweeney.
Cerbaho-WG
I have the same worries about Sweeney, but I don't agree with putting him at #7. Sweeney still has some swing issues to iron out, but he'll be fine in the long run. I'm still worried about his lack of power, but since he's only 19, I don't worry much. My top 10 looks like this: 1) McCarthy 2) Sweeney 3) Anderson 4) Gonzalez 5) Young 6) Fields 7) Tracey 8) Hernandez 9) Honel 10) Whisler I was tempted to throw Liotta up there, but I'm weary of anyone in rookie or short-season ball, Hernandez included. DBAHO
Next season will be important for Sweeney, although I've got confidence he can do what he needs to do to get himself up to Birmingham by the end of the year. He started coming around in the 2nd half of 2004 anyways, so he should be able to continue on with that form. There's no way Young should be a 3 and Sweeney at 7 though. Sweeney is 2 years younger, was in his 1st season of minor league ball, while Young has played 2.5 years of minor league ball and is still only in low A ball. This got me though about Sweeney; Still, he badly needs to show more patience at the plate, and the raw power hasn't been there. Young - 66 BB's, 145 K's. Sweeney - 40 BB's, 65 K's Give Sweeney 2 more years like Young, and the power will start coming, but he's not even a power hitter. He's more like Jeremy Reed. farmteam
See, I was under the impression they were going to start Sweeney at Birmingham. And power is a tough thing to predict. Look at Joe Mauer. I forget the exact numbers, but he hit something like 7 Homers in 65 starts, when he'd hit very few in his entire minor league career. For all we know, Sweeney could end up averaging 35 dingers a year.

farmteam
Also, what those tell me is that he hit a decent amount, for a prospect, but nothing overwhelming.
