Chisoxmatt
How can anyone rate this offseason below GOOD? First of all, if the Sox indeed resign Ordonez, that would be $12 mil/a year. With Lee on this team, he would have cost us $8.5 mil next year. Those two players alone combine for $20.5 mil, 27% of the team's payroll (assuming payroll is at $75 mil). Do you know what that MEANS? We would have had the same old slow boring team again that has not won anything since the year of 2000. That would have meant we can NOT sign any other players to better our club. That would have meant the frustrating dejavu situtation of lacking 5th starting pitcher all over again. No Thanks. Good points. This set of players hasnt worked since 2000. We were going nowhere so KW was forced to make a change.
SoxFan1
I wouldn't vote until ST but if I had to vote now, it would be "Good" but if we add Eckstein, it would be "Very Good" but like I said, it's too early to vote.
babybearhater
im not set on these moves...Eckstein by the way will sign with the Cardinals..they are in need of a shortstop and will give more money...I thought the moves we could of made would of def. helped us out more and would of been a success for this offseason...ok so we signed average o below average players that nobody wants...Scott Podsednik...Jermaine Dye...Orlando Hernandez...Luis Vizcaino..and Dustin Hermanson...injury prone players..washed up...Spods was a .244 hitter at leadoff...Dye was hurt..and is no comparison to Magglio...El Duque is 35..injury prone..washed up! Vizcaino..decent trade...Hermanson..what else should I say, his era was almost 5...The players we failed to get...Vizquel..Clement..Randy Johnson..Pierzinski..Odalis Perez..It just shows the sox are cheap..not willing to take chances..and Reinsdorf has to go...Give it a C hahahaha, spoken like a true 8 year old who knows little to nothing about what it takes to win this division. We have the best defensive outfield in the division if not the entire american league. Not to mention, this will easily equal the offensive production of last years outfield, if not improve it with the stolen bases. Therefore the outfield is better. The pitching staff has improved 100 percent over what it was before. We have added two solid bullpen guys as well as solidified a rotation which hasnt seen a solid fifth starter in 8 years. We now have FG JC and OH for a whole season!!! along with proven winning MB and project JG. With the bullpen able to eat more quality innings and having a solidified rotation the pitching has improved dramatically. The infield has only lost one player, who was not only a defensive liability, but also an On base nightmare. The infield could be improved with one more signing, but for now, lets call it at the same. So if the pitching improved, and the defense and outfield is improved, we will win more games. There is more to life than big name bug money players, and right handed homerun hitters. You can cry about RJ all you want, but we would have gotten ripped off in that deal, as well as for Vasquez. And if we signed Clement we would have no money to pursure another infielder, and a possible batter for the 2 hole. So you are out, O'doyle rules OUT
winninguglyin83
can't count this as anything better than fair considering we lost Maggs (with nothing in return), Carlos and assorted others. we failed to land Vizquel or Clement or any of the other top shelf free agents. we're in the middle of the pack this off season. SoxFan1
Last time I checked, Vizquel and Clement WEREN'T top-shelf free agents.
NUKE_CLEVELAND
I wonder if the vote for "f*** You KW" was because the voter really thought that way or if it was just to se that choice get a vote.
Rowand44
Good. Either Eck or Cora and I believe it becomes a very good offseason. Kenny has changed the dynamics of this team, from having an all power offense we now have a team that can manufacture some runs plus we still have some boppers in the middle of the order. This pitching is 100 percent better then it was at the beginning of 04. I'm very satisfied and I full expect Kenny to sign Alex or Eck and I'll be thrilled with the offseason. JUGGERNAUT
Argghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I'm beginning to hate the name Eck! I can't understand CWS fans any more & I am one! We gave up power offense to get power pitching this off-season & all you guys want to do is go spend more $ on guys who can't hit like Eck A 360 OBP does not a hitter make! His < 700 OPS is lousy. I don't care who they get any more but the guy should at least resemble a hitter

He's a perfect fit to bat in the 2 hole, he's handles the bat well, he's the definition of "grinder," and he'd be very good defensive 2nd baseman, he's such a perfect fit for this team. Losing Carlos brought us our first true lead off hitter since lance johnson, and two great arms for the bullpen. BTW Vizquel was never considered top shelf, and Clement's stats werent as good as Duque, and his were i nthe national league
Texsox
Once again Kenny and Co. need to try and strike a balance. Unlike the Yankees and Red Sox that can just pile on in one area that needs help, Kenny is forced to balance pitching, power, defense, speed "ozzie ball", and payroll. He cannot just go and add pitching without taking from another pile. He cannot just keep taking from payroll to add speed. So we have taken from our power pile and added to our pitching pile. We have taken from our RBI pile and added to our speed pile. Overall I do not think the team has gotten better, but this mix may win more games. For example, and not to start a stat war, maybe we hit 15% fewer homeruns, but they generate 5% more runs because guys are on base when the ball leaves the park. Ahhh hope springs eternal. JUGGERNAUT
I looked at what they ACTUALLY did in another thread. Here's the post: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...iew=getlastpost I remain unconvinced Cairo adds MUCH more to the CWS than Eck. If KW signs Cairo as a utility player & Zaun as a starting C I'm giving him thumbs up on the off-season. If KW signs a solid RP good v both LH's & RH's I'm giving him applause. Funny how we all forget......
