upnorthsox
I had issues with that article. I do agree that they went the cheap route with Duque but that clown will be eating some serious crow if a healthy Hernandez ( and there's no evidence to think he's not at this point ) wins 14-15 games for us. My biggest beef with that, though, is that he was lamenting the loss of Lee and Ordonez. As several posters have noted in other threads we had become a team with nothing but boppers on board. Now that Ordonez and Lee have been replaced by Dye, Posednik we are weaning ourselves off our total reliance on the long ball in favor of a good balance of speed and defense while retaining Konerko and Thomas/Everett for power. Also we have significantly strengthened our bullpen by adding Vizcaino and Hermanson. As other posters have correctly noted, we havent won anything the last 4 years with the players we have now so a retooling was needed and I think KW accomplished that. If they bring over Eckstien like they are talking about then that's just icing on the cake. What balance? Dye is a potted plant and if you take Willie out of the lineup then you've negated Spods gains. Unless by balanced you mean that we can suck pretty much everyday of the week now then yea I'd agree with that.

Give it a rest already. We blew ass last year and we retooled to make things better. How does taking Willie out of the lineup negate anything? WH couldn't steal a base to save his whole families life so what good is his "speed" anyway? You're long on talk and short on facts. Had we done nothing..........People like you would complain that we did nothing. Had we overpaid for every big time FA out there.........People like you would complain that we overpaid and that we'd suck anyway. Now that we did what we did.........You're complaining that we're gonna suck again.
Buehrle>Wood
That's how Williams has to live. This year, he is so broke that he has decided to try to win with defense and speed. Thats where Couch lost all of his credibility.
NUKE_CLEVELAND
Thats where Couch lost all of his credibility. I guess someone forgot to tell him that hitting a ton of homeruns only won us a 1st round exit in the 2000 season and nothing else. :rolly

Unless by balanced you mean that we can suck pretty much everyday of the week now then yea I'd agree with that. Nuke, I agree on both your posts this year. BTW - Dye isn't a 'potted plant', as you refer to him as. He's about as good as a healthy Magglio in RF, with a much better arm than Maggs ever had -- and Maggs had a pretty good throwing motion from RF to the plate. We still have our power -- at least 20 homers each from Rowand, Dye, Konerko, Thomas, Uribe, Crede, as well as some others that will reach right around ten homers or so. But now, we have more of a well-balanced lineup, and if we add Eckstien, I'll be very, very pleased with our lineup. Couch is a goof. We haven't been in such a good position since 2003 -- except, this year, we actually have five reliable starters, not four, and our bullpen is loads better than our '03 bullpen. nitetrain8601
I like this article and I like the fact that this does point out that JR only owns 10% more than anyone else. He's not in charge of all the decisions. When the team raises payroll all the owners must know about it, not just JR contrary to belief by Levine and most Sox fans. People will still deny this, but trust me JR doesn't hold all the marbles to make such decisions as payroll increases and things of that nature. CSF
I haven't respected a single word by Couch ever since that hatchet article he wrote about Frank before spring training. Just like Mariotti, he wants you to spend through the nose to bring in the Pavanos, Beltrans, Drews, & Renterias no matter the cost. Ask the Mets how they've felt the past couple of years bringing in all the big time free agents and how they're records have reflected it (and yet, still didn't learn their lesson this year). While I think Cowley's article on CLee was somewhat off-base, you have to give some creedence to team chemistry. As much as I hate Minnesota, they have always been somewhat of a tight, cohesive unit. Hard to believe, so were the Yankees when they first started winning World Series championships with guys like O'Neill, Tino Martinez, & Scott Brosius providing leadership. Then Steinbrenner got greedy and wanted all of the "big name stars", and hasn't won a championship since those 3 guys left town. Just because you don't bring in the most expensive guy doesn't mean you're settling for something lower. I hope the Sox can bring in an Eckstein or a Cora, someone who's not a star, but can do the little things needed for those W's. Screw Couch, DeLuca, & Mariotti. They're all nitwits. :fyou

And I'm sure people like you were using the fact that we lost our #3 and #4 hitters for more than half the season as the excuse for us not winning last yr or that in 2003 in was because we had no 5th starter or in 2002 it was all Todd Ritchie's fault, it's always some excuse with you koolaid sippers after the buzz has died and you find out the Sox aren't the best team in the world. But then the off-season begins and you take another big swig of koolaid, once again KW can do no wrong and the Sox are headed to the World Series. Yeah baby!!!! Woohoo!!! If you actually knew me you'd know that I've wanted to blow this team up for almost 3 yrs now and that if that had happened this winter I'd be one very happy camper right now. Instead, we've made some salary moves and cloaked it in a "New Direction" propaganda replacing real production with a bunch of "Ifs" and "Coulds". But please, take another long gulp off that koolaid and let out that world series WooHoo of only a true "fan" because IF everyone stays healthy AND produces then they COULD go to the series. That much I'll grant you, which appears to be more than I'll get in return.

If you knew anything about me, or read any of my posts for that matter, you'd know that I've slammed KW for ths s*** moves he's made and slammed him all of last season for leaving us without a viable 5th starter ( Tee-ball stand/roulette wheel posts ring a bell? ) but I just happen to like where he's taking us this season and most of the board agrees with me. Kool-aid sipper? Hardly. I'm a realist. I'm not going to jump up and down saying we're gonna win it all but I do think we're truly capable of at least winning the division this season. Prove me wrong.
JUGGERNAUT
In Chicago: The White Sox avg 143K on WGN, Bulls 138K on WGN, & NASCAR 108K on FOX. On cable, BHAWKS avg 18K, NASCAR 53K. Those are household numbers.
