I think we can expect another RP to round it out to 25. With El-Duque & a pen of mostly specialist (strong vs LH or RH but not both), it makes sense to carry a staff of 12.

What I didn't take into consideration earlier is that if Thomas is unable to play he'll start the season on the DL. That free's up yet another spot.

Waste of space spots:

Davis, Burke, T Perez

Davis stepped it up for 1 month then he became his uesless self again. Please. Enough.

The same with Perez. He's a terrible PH. All 3 are wastes of space.

I want a better than average C in the 7-9 spots. G Zaun fits that bill.

Dump Burke & add Zaun.

Nothing can be done about Perez & Davis because they are signed. Uggh.

Getting rid of one waste of space is better than nothing.

Hey! Qwerty and I helped out Rex with Politte's contract in a previous thread.

:stick :P

I'm still pretty confident that he gets $900,000 this year, and has an option for $1.2 million in 2006 otherwise there is a $100,000 buyout. No biggie. Should we also take in account Kevin Walker's $100,000?

This is correct because i remember seeing it in like two papers that day too.

White Sox signed RHP Cliff Politte to a one-year, $1 million contract with an option for 2006.

The White Sox had indicated they'd pick up Politte's option, but this is better. No one else was going to pay Politte $1.3 million after a second straight disappointing season, so there was no reason for the White Sox to do so. Instead, he'll get $900,000 in 2005 and the White Sox will hold a $1.2 million option for 2006 with a $100,000 buyout. Politte had a 4.38 ERA in 54 relief appearances this year before undergoing an appendectomy on Sept. 1.

too lazy to read all the posts, but one thing i like about this is that there isn't one player making more than $10 million.

The money is spread out rather nicely, and every year it seems as though we'll have enough money freed in case we want to look at free agency.

We get your point Jugg, you REALLY want Zaun and Cairo. OK, but it;s no reasonto say that Timo, Ben, and Jamie are garbage. Shame on you.

Timo Perez, for $1 mill, is terrible. Alex Escobar or Joe Borchard, for the league minimum, could post atleast a .650 OPS...something Timo could NOT do last year.

I don't give a s*** if he is clutch. He hit .246, had an OBP of .285, has no power, no speed, no range in the OF...so he has a decent arm and is "clutch". You think that's really worth $1 mill?

Timo's garbage.

Davis is not quite garbage...but there are many, many better catchers out there then Davis.

Burke is not garbage...seems to me that he is a good backup catcher who handles pitchers well, has a good arm, and is solid with the bat(not .330 average solid, but .250-.270 .700 solid is definately possible)

And to top it off, Timo is the laziest OFer I have seen since Claudell Washington slept in LF. And don't forget Sammy Sosa played here first...

Timo played the entire season with a quad injury. He isn't the fastest guy in the world, but is faster than he showed last season. He's also a pretty good outfielder, and has more range than he showed. He's a decent 4th outfielder, can fill in at all 3 spots, gets some big hits, and makes less than half the average salary and less than 1/8th of a pitcher who won 9 games last year. I don't think its a bad deal.

Well, thanks to you and Q as well.

I corrected Cliff's salary.

As for counting Walker, we had over estimated Politte by 100,000. So that would cover Walker.

One Reason - Increased revenues: These differ from market to market, but one universal windfall is the new MLB/XM Satellite Radio deal which resulted in a payout of approximately $4 million to each franchise. That's not enough to land a marquee player, but it's not insignificant either and is a far greater sum than many franchises make with their own local radio rights.

I think Timo's injury [which wasn't talked about until after the season] really hurt his production. At first glance, he seems very avg. Ozzie and Kw, for some reason, have both talked up timo, even if they didn't have a lot of stats to back them up. Yet I'll give Timo the benefit of the doubt that he'll improve on his 2004.

I'm fine with Davis as a backup. Yet if the sox didn't sign Davis, that would have left the sox w/ a 34 yr old journeyman C who was hitting under .230 in AAA when he was called up last yr. Davis' $1 mill contract is low enough that the sox can still improve this position, either before the season or during
