DBAHO
Found this in the Boston Globe, it'll be interesting to see if someone does decide to buy the team, what type of effect this will have on payroll; One interpretation of Billy Beane's decision to trade not one, but two of his Big Three pitchers, Tim Hudson (to the Braves) and Mark Mulder (to the Cardinals)? "Don't be surprised if Steve Schott is getting ready to sell that team," one major league executive said last week. "And when Billy sees the moves Seattle and Anaheim are making, he realizes he can't compete, so he might as well rebuild."
farmteam
That's rather interesting. Billy Beane with even just an average payroll is scary thought.
BobDylan
That's rather interesting. Billy Beane with even just an average payroll is scary thought. No it's not. Billy Beane hasn't proved s***. The A's were always built around Hudson, Mulder and Zito, pitchers whom weren't brought in or scouted by Beane. Those A's offenses have always been anemic, and we saw how "good" the players Beane brought in were last year when their big three wasn't so big. Grinding and small ball only gets you so far. You eventually you need the go to guy. The A's (and Twins) have been living proof of that for years. Screw Billy Beane and screw his philosophy. Every World Series champ has a leader on the offensive side, something the A's don't have...and even when they did, they still choked. YASNY
I'll say this much about Billy Beane not proving s*** .... The A's kick the s*** out of the White Sox every year.
raff
i am not scared of billy beane. just because he co wrote a book doesnt mean anything. i read it. his ways are a little different, but he mainly got lucky and took some proven talent over potential. other teams know what those players can produce, and for him some were producing a little better than expected. the other teams went for potential stars. billy is nothing special, all the book was a publicity stunt for himself. if he leaves the As, 20 some other teams will be drooling over him just because of his name and how he keeps payroll down. I gotta disagree Raff. I'm sick and tired of all this "Billy Beane got lucky" s***. Making the post-season multiple years in a row is anything but lucky. Look at the players that come out of the A's farm systems. There's nothing lucky about that. It's called scouting. The A's do a good job of filling their holes with players from their farm system every year because they can't afford the ones they have. I'm going to go out on a limb right now, and say the A's will still be a pain in the ass this year to play, and I think there's a good possibility of them finishing over .500.
