Heads22
Yeah, I remember asking my Dad if some one was the greatest athlete he'd ever seen. He said "Not even close. Bo Jackson, without a doubt, before he got hurt." I never saw Bo play. I didn't follow baseball til 95.
LDF
comparing athletes from different era's has always been tough and is it really fair?? In my opinion the greatest athlete ever is and was Jim Thorpe. In the 1912 Olympic Games, he won both the pentathlon and decathlon events, setting world records in the events with a half day rest. At the time he set the national collegiate championship, scoring 25 touchdowns and 198 points. He played 6 yrs in major league baseball while playing at that time national football leading his team to world championship in 1916-17 and 1919. Do you know how hard a decathlon is? again this is set in a different era.
guapotaco
He gave me his chicken dinner on a flight from LA to Chicago a couple years back. He was sittin across the aisle from me, and grabbed the last one. But when he heard i wanted it he gave it to me instead, and settled for the pasta. True story, great gentleman. I don't want to compare Jim Throrpe to anyone in this era. Dave Winfield was drafted by the MLB, NBA, and NFL, but you still can't really compare him to todays athletes. Too much money involved I guess.
