C_LEE45
come on Willie is not the answer,i think Grudziclaneck, polanco would be good enough and maybe even Bellhorn(little power but Ks ALOT)anyone of the 3 over willie

His range is very very limited. He couldn't play SS anymore and that's a key for whomever the Sox bring in. And you're right, he is definitely getting up there age wise. southsider2k5
your right about his range but he still is better than willie . Range and defense in general are not Harris's problems at all. Defensively he is a very good 2B. His problem lies in consistancy at the plate (5-5 one day then 0-15 over his next 3 games) and his fear of stealing bases. AnthraxFan93
What are you talking about, that made no sense. Last year, when KW failed to secure a 2b going into the 04 season, he made a comment about Harris comparing him to Carlos Lee, and saying that people didn't want to think CLEE could handle the job and now he is a star. And just out of curiousity, for how many seasons were people saying that Carlos Lee was a bust, he should be traded, and couldn't put up numbers for more than a half season? He is not a free agent and we are not going to give up young talent to aquire a $4 mm platoon player. Carl Everret is already filling that role. Yeah, but Lee showed improvements.. when has harris? The only reason in years past that Harris was given chance after chance, only to continue to fail. Blame it on being yanked out of the lineup..so was Rowand and Uribe yet they were able to perform when they were there during the early part of the season. striker
I don't know why everyone is so ancy to get a different 2B. Harris has speed, good range and a good glove. He finished with a .262 average, which is respectable for his first full year. Yes he was inconsistent but who wasn't on this team? I really think he has potential and will prove naysayers wrong this year.
thedoctor
between willie and garland i think the sox have the market cornered on frustrating potential. anyhow, if willie is going to get a shot he needs to get a shot. you stick him in the line-up and leave him there, then watch your results and make a decision. the only problem with this is i don't think ozzie has the patience to approach it this way. I also believe his numbers would have been even better if he wasn't benched in the middle of a hot streak when Valentin came off the DL. WilliamTell
I'm all for letting Willie stay at 2nd base. You have to leave him in the lineup everyday to see what he's capable of doing.
False Alarm
Yeah, but Lee showed improvements.. when has harris? 2003 Avg: .204 OBP: .259 RF: 3.08 2004: Avg: .262 OBP: 343 RF: 4.20 looks like improvement to me. and if you wanna argue that he didn't have enough at-bats prior to '04 to put much stock in those numbers--which he probably didn't--then by the same token, you can't claim to have a large enough sample size to make judgments or bulls*** claims about his improvement (or lack thereof). i understand peeps' qualms about willie, and yes there're a lot of questions and things to dislike about him, and yes i'll be happy to upgrade if there's someone available, but it's not like dude's a total bum. WilliamTell
That is improvement. We have to remember Willie is still young and still has time to improve.
AddisonStSox
You'll get your two-bagger. Kenny wants one more piece of the puzzle (a middle infielder) before packing up and calling it an off-season. Hang in there. Help is on the way.
