Elcaballo45
Anyone know? I really thought he was going to make some noise in the free agent hunt this winter, I really wanted to see #75 on the South Side. (2nd fav. player) behind someone that plays in Milwaukee? Chisoxmatt
I dont know officially but i will assume that he is staying. They already traded 2 of the big 3. I know they are sort of rebuilding but they need a good pitcher to build the starting rotation around. I am almost 100% sure he will be staying with the A's next season. knightni
I really doubt that Zito is for trade...yet. He could be on the A's trade list when he is due for a pay raise. But, Z would probably cost the Sox Garland, Marte AND McCarthy.

I'd make that deal. I wouldn't. You know better about McCarthy than I do, so I won't comment on that. But I really think that Zito wouldn't pitch very well here. I think he really benefites from playing at the Colesseum, and would get bombed here. That being said, I wouldn't do that deal (Garland, Mac, Marte), but if it was cheaper -- or if he was a FA option, I'd look definitely be for it. EDIT: Wow, what the hell is up with my quote... danman31
You could be right, but a big thing is that I'm not a big Marte fan.

knightni
IMO, it's a high price to pay for a guy a year removed from a bad year. Even if he is two years removed from a Cy Young year.
The Critic
I believe that Oakland will hang onto Zito this year for two reasons: 1. To see if his trade value improves after ( they hope ) a better year than 2004 and 2. To see if their young arms develop enough to feel confident about letting Zito go. TLAK
MLB's coverage of the Mulder trade included this quote from Billy Beane, 12/18/04. That said, Beane addressed Zito's status succinctly. "Zito will not be traded," Beane said Saturday night. Did something change?
The Critic
QUOTE (TLAK @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) MLB's coverage of the Mulder trade included this quote from Billy Beane, 12/18/04. Did something change? I think the speculation comes from the fact that "The Big Three" seemed untouchable, and now two of them have new addresses. It's only natural to wonder if Beane would just go ahead and deal the third, regardless of quotes to the contrary.
Punch and Judy Garland
Zito has two years left on his deal. I assume that they will play it by ear and keep him the rest of this season. If they aren't ready to contend by 06 or if they don't feel that they can resign him, then they may move him.
Elcaballo45
Thanks for the info guys, I know we have a solid 5 right now, but possibly at the trade deadline in July, team's may try to strike a deal with Barry. Lol, if he got traded to the Brewers, it would be hard to not root for my 2 favorite players over the Sox.... Nah, I didnt just say that... Go Sox! Chisoxfn
Billy must know that it isn't wise to deal a guy when his value is low. I think Zito will be dealt, but I'm guessing they see what the A's do first before dealing him. If they aren't in the race at the deadline (which I think is a good possibility) and if Zito is back to his old self, Beane's going to get a lot more for him then. Very good point, but the problem is, I dont know if he can get his form back. He lost 2-3 mph on his fastball over the last 2 years, and his 12-6 curve is not fooling as many batters as it did. He started to K a lot of batters, and I think he should develop a better sinker, and get more ground ball outs, and get that ERA back in the 3's.
