thelatinoheat_30
i forgot exactly what he said, but somethin like he talked to kenny a day ago about aj. when the hosts asked hawk what the lineup should be, hawk said wait till spring training cause they'll make some more moves, kinda suggesting we'll get aj. also said he(hawk) had lunch w/ aj about a week and a half ago and also aj went to high school with hawks daughter. thinks he's conscientious. hawk said he would want him on the team but he didn't seem to be too enthused. and he said what pitchers said about him not preparing was prolly just pitchers pointing the finger after a bad performance: on the umps, bad d, and eventually bad sequences by aj, etc. also said that getting big boppers for the cell isn't the right theory, which he said jerry manuel did while he was here(you could tell he was ripping on him again). since its so easy to get hrs, even the smaller guys can get the homers so we don't need to clog the lineup w/ "power" hitters, which is a good point, except on the road, like @ comerica. the pitcher he's worried about most is contreras cause of his love of his splitter. overall, hawk didn't seem as optimistic about the team as usual, esp. the rotation. kinda skipped over talking about the starters to say the bullpen could be one of the best in the league. AddisonStSox
You have to take everything Hawk says with a grain of salt. Today he may not have been too enthusiastic about the club, but tomorrow, he may think we will run away with the division. I'm happy to hear that he thinks the AJP deal will go down. I don't care what people are saying of him, AJP is one of the finest catchers in the bigs. We will finally have some stability at the catching position if he is brought in. Fingers crossed on two more free agent aquisitions.

Manuel wasn't the greatest manager but he was a classy guy and doesn't deserve to be ripped on all the time by Hawk.

Checked his fielding % the other day and was surprised to see how high it was, I think he only made one error last year. Fielding % doesn't tell the whole story but I'm not sure why some people have said Pierzynski is mediocre defensively. I always thought he called an excellent game while with Minnesota, and I remember Harrelson commenting on it several times. On Harrelson's take re: the pitching staff ... listening to him last year, it seemed he likes Buehrle and Garcia but didn't like Contreras and Garland. Sort of like he felt both Contreras and Garland didn't have enough mental toughness.

DonkeyKongerko
Hawk has a flair for the over-dramatic but you just gotta love the guy. It seems like every time he's interviewed he says something like "Something BIG is about to happen."

I still wonder what the "Trade that will change the franchise" was supposed to be, or if there ever was such a trade..... I think you're talking about the trade that would "knock your socks off" after the Everett and Alomar trades in 2003. I did some looking back, and the Sox were close to getting Weaver, but refused to give up Cotts. There was also talk about Konerko for Ponson. T R U
I dont understand why he isnt more optimistic about this year than last year.. Our rotation is going to be solid 1-5 no question marks this year and we have a good leadoff guy and some pretty good hitters in the middle of the order.. I think this year we have a much better shot at it than last year.. we also get a full year of Freddy G too

GoodAsGould
we still need i think either pieryznski or that japanese 2B dude i think to be serious contenders.... id say of the 2 pieryznski is the biggest need if we have to we can always trade willie harris for robbie alomar at the deadline
