id tend to agree but as of now if we dont add an OL men what would it be as of now?

LT: Qusim Mitchell/Columbo

LG: Edwards

C: Kreutz

RG: Ruben Brown

RT: Jonathon Tait

if thats it i really wouldnt mind giving Columbo a chance to prove himself at LT.. i know he was bad today but id like to see him start a season healthy and see how it goes.... although i could pass on Edwards at LG... and i guess Brown is getting a bit up there in age.

I think its apparent that the Bears need to trade down. The top 4 picks will be between the two qb's (Leinart and Rogers), Antrelle Rolle, and Cedric Benson none of which fit the Bears drastic needs.

If the Bears trade down though, there will definately be a team interested in moving up. I know the Chargers have two picks, but unless they want Rolle I can't see them moving up. Also there is supposed to be an excellent OLB from Texas or somewhere available that will go Top 6 or so.

You then have Mike Williams, Clayton, and Braylan Edwards as three very good receivers but I don't think any of them stand above the other and I'm sure I'm leaving plenty of names out.

Move down to the teens if possible, select a WR and an OT or even go WR and TE or two WR's because its such a drastic area of need. Regardless I think as of now the Bears need to trade down a few slots.

They could also consider cutting a deal with someone like Seattle who has Walter Jones and work out a deal for there 1st rounder and Walter Jones (Bears then sign him to a contract).

Lienart isnt listed as one of the drafts top 5 Qb's he's believed to be a Ken Dorsey of sorts... not really NFL quality.... I disagree, but then again.. I do love Matt Leinart and want to have a love child with him soooo

I heard a few draft experts, Kiper being one of them, talking and he said Leinart and Rogers are sure fire top 5 picks. Kiper may be a bit overrated, but the guy is still one of the very best.

Leinart doesn't have the Dorsey syndrome, ie weak arm. And I agree with you Leinart is a quality qb. I think of him as a Mark Brunell type guy.

San Fran, Miami and Cleveland are the 3 teams picking ahead of Chicago.

I think San Fran will take a QB, potentially Aaron Rodgers although they could also look at Cedric Benson. Miami goes RB or QB and Cleveland probably takes the leftover, although I think Cleveland is most likely to deal down or even take Antrelle Rolle.

Cleveland does have a need at both RB and QB though, especially since Garcia struggled. But I don't know if they go QB high after the Couch fiasco.

Thats weird....

Kiper doesnt even have Lienart in his top Qb's

Kiper

I dunno.

Taking a guess, but I'm assuming Kiper is only ranking seniors and Leinart is an underclassmen. Actually I guarantee you that cause after looking at that top 5, all of those guys on there are seniors.

Rodgers and Leinart hands down are top 5 picks and at the very worse top 10 picks. Orton wouldn't be a bad guy for the Bears to draft if he sticks around into the 4th round and beyond.

It goes by draft eligibility... maybe Rodgers and Lienart havent declared yet....

that does make sense.

Ya neither have. And both are juniors. I'm assuming both will be going pro, although some people seem to think that Lienart won't be. But when its all set and done I bet he does.

A chance to win 3 titles... thats kind of intriguing

They traded the #4 away in 2003 to the jets to get Haynes and Dong Grossman

Okay, but was there a year where they actually drafted a guy that high?

Curis P.Enis and Jim McMahon were drafted #5, Mark Carrier and Jimbo Covert were drafted #6.

No one above #5 has been drafted by the Bears since 1982.

Payton was an early pick, wasn't he?

First,

Kiper does not rate anyone that has not declared for the draft.

Second,

You cant make a good judgement until the combine.

With the Bears needs, I would say the most likely picks fall between; Rolle, Edwards, D'Brickshaw, Williams, Barron, and Brown.

I saw some one mention Derrick Johnson the LB out of Texas. Depending on his 40 time etc, he could perhaps make a play for the Bears drafting him, but I think if he goes wild at the combine he gets picked by the Browns.

My personal choice would be Rolle, followed by D'Brickshaw, Barron, and Brown, depending on how each of them performs at the combine, injury concerns etc. D'Brickshaw is the hardest because some people say he might be the next Ogden, but if you draft him at 4, then hell get a big contract guaranteed.

And according to another website, Rodgers and Leinart are both in, so at 4, 2 of the first 3 are going to be Benson and Leinart, thus we should get a pick of our players.

Thats another problem with trying to figure out what is going to happen in the draft.

If the Bears sign a WR, then they wont draft Williams or Edwards. If they get a guy like Walter Jones, they wont need OL.

Thats why I think they may get Rolle, because CB is a much harder position to address via FA.

And at 4, outside of Johnson, he will be the best athlete, with tremendous upside. If he posts a sub 4.4, at 6-1 its going to be hard to pass.

I just think financially Angelo knows its not typically beneficial to make a selection 4th overall. The signing bonus is extreme and you put a lot of risk on a guy panning out. If the Bears move down a bit, they not only address two needs and a good talent evaluator can get things to pan out, plus they'll likely have some extra money for free agency.

I do disagree with you in the fact that the Bears need two recievers regardless, so if they sign one (assuming its not Plaxico or a huge money receiver) then they are still going to be drafting one very high, imo.

The Bears will pick a WR in the 2nd round, guys like Carphonso Thorpe, Chris Henry, will be around.

As for CB, after Rolle, there is a huge drop off, in the 2nd round you are looking at Webster from LSU.

If the Bears trade, it will be for 2 first round picks, and should be substantially similar to the 1st round trade to the Jets that got us the Haynes and Grossman pick.

Trading down is my usual preference, unless there is an impact player that will become a staple of your franchise and who you will expect to try and keep. Unlike Baseball, every team is pretty much at the salary cap, so drafting the best players allows you to keep the best players and create a core.

The Bears offensive core is terrible, outside of Grossman and Jones, there is really nothing to build around. Gage, Wade, and Berrian are all good 3-4 WR's, but it will take probably another year before any of them can be a 2. The offensive line needs probably a complete overhaul with a youth infusion, because unless they are more aggressive than they ever have been in the offseason, the Bears next year will not be considered a playoff team if they are relying on their offense.

Therefore, I think the Bears should try and make 1 outstanding unit, and 1 developing unit. The Bears defense needs another CB. Rolle fits that bill.

If we trade down, Id expect us to get, WR and OL. If we stay, I really think we cant pass up Rolle. The others are just to big of risks to give the big contract too. With Rolle you know what you are getting, an immediate starter, with star potential.

Do the bears really need another CB?

Tillman, Azumah, Vasher, and McQuarters if we still want him.... thats a solid group no?

Considering this might be the worst offense to ever hit the field in the NFL... dont you go offense early and often?
