greasywheels121
Damn...off to NY he goes. I feel bad for the Mets sometimes. They sign all these big names, and then their numbers just disappear. Alomar was solid until he got to NY...Mo Vaughn....Pedro's probably next....
SoxFan562004
Yeah, I saw this somewhere too, just can't remember where!! Basically though, New York Newsday is the only one reporting this and other papers are saying no offer has been made.
LosMediasBlancas
supposedly the Cubs will offer 5 years, 75 mil. max, even if they cannot unload Corky.
The Critic
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) supposedly the Cubs will offer 5 years, 75 mil. max, even if they cannot unload Corky. They're awful slow in getting an offer out there. Hendry's probably FLYING UNDER THE RADAR.....
SoxFan562004
If that's what the Cubs are offering, it's not much of one... Astros and Mets will both blow that away with $$ and years
LosMediasBlancas
You're probably right, it will probably come down to $$. But, if I was Beltran, I'd have to ask myself which team becomes more of a WS contender once I sign with them. Astros? I don't think so, still finish 2nd or 3rd behind St. Louis and Cubs and what happens to that team in 06 and beyond? Mets? Still would be a few pieces away, maybe a fav. down the road. Cubs? Yes, automatuically would become the NL favorite Yanks? Yes automatically become the WS fav. fathom
I can't see Beltran signing with the Cubs if he doesn't sign with the Astros. He's a classy guy, and by joining the Astros biggest divisional rival, he'd be turning his back on the team that he helped make such a great run in the playoffs. LosMediasBlancas
I don't see it either, but not for the reason you just stated. Beltran was only with them a few months, it's not like he came up with the organization and had been there for years. SoxFan562004
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) I don't see it either, but not for the reason you just stated. Beltran was only with them a few months, it's not like he came up with the organization and had been there for years. He has said he was comfortable with Astros and "all things being equal" he would stay with the Astros. So it seems Mets, Cubs or Tigers would have to offer more money... Molto
wow, nearly as dumb as when the Rangers signed Rodriguez. if true, the Mets try really hard to top the dumbest of teams.

SoxFan562004
Put this in the Cubs offer Beltran thread as well, but ESPN.com put up an article saying Mets are finalizing offer, and it's going to be atleast 100m... but they don't have ivy on the wall... LosMediasBlancas
How about A Rod in Texas? Fat cash on a losing team, he got tired of it quickly.
