Mets offer 7 years, 119 mil. to Beltran

Recommended Posts

You're probably right, it will probably come down to $$. But, if I was Beltran, I'd have to ask myself which team becomes more of a WS contender once I sign with them.

Astros? I don't think so, still finish 2nd or 3rd behind St. Louis and Cubs and what happens to that team in 06 and beyond?

Mets? Still would be a few pieces away, maybe a fav. down the road.

Cubs? Yes, automatuically would become the NL favorite

Yanks? Yes automatically become the WS fav.

If that's what the Cubs are offering, it's not much of one... Astros and Mets will both blow that away with $$ and years

Borass is his agent. Beltran is going to the highest bidder, no doubt.

I don't see it either, but not for the reason you just stated. Beltran was only with them a few months, it's not like he came up with the organization and had been there for years.

I can't see Beltran signing with the Cubs if he doesn't sign with the Astros.  He's a classy guy, and by joining the Astros biggest divisional rival, he'd be turning his back on the team that he helped make such a great run in the playoffs.

He has said he was comfortable with Astros and "all things being equal" he would stay with the Astros. So it seems Mets, Cubs or Tigers would have to offer more money...

Beltran may be a classy guy, but Scott Boras is not.
