Chisoxfn
Holy s***, I'm so freaking happy. God damn this tells me the Bears won't settle and sit and wait hoping to get better. Tell me you heard this Chisoxfan? I just saw this posted on another board and was hoping it was true
CSF
Yup. Zach Zaidman said they should be calling a press conference for later today to announce it. They said the Bears are committed to this style of offense, so they may look at someone from either the Rams or Chiefs coaching staff. But yeah, looks to be official. southsider2k5
Maybe Shea wasn't the best guy for this job, but holding him responsible for that mess is like firing the weatherman in Thailand for not predicting the precipitation that came through... Chisoxfn
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 11:04 AM) Maybe Shea wasn't the best guy for this job, but holding him responsible for that mess is like firing the weatherman in Thailand for not predicting the precipitation that came through... Disagree with ya. Shea put this upon himself. - He recommended Quinn to be the backup and stuck with him too long - Ignored Lovie's stance of getting Hutchinson more reps in practice earlier - Refused to go up to the box so he could actually see what was going on - Refused to make any adjustments - Refused to stick with the run (Jones would average 4.5 a carry some games and would just not get used at all - Did all he could to make that offensive line so much worse. I'm am talking about him just getting pass happy when the run was working. I'm talking about how he wouldn't utilize the slant route which is one of the most effective routes in football right now. its quick developing, high percentage and forces db's to play tighter coverage, thus opening the deeper routes. Failed to call more 3 step drops with the oline struggling - O shea did so many horrible things that I could continue going on and I'm not even an imaginative person. I've been calling for his firing for about 7 or 8 weeks now and I couldn't be happier. This guy was the biggest piece of crap of an OC that I have ever seen. This offense ranked dead worse in the NFL in pretty much every major category. I can't get over how excited I am that the Bears stepped it up and removed this guy. And I don't want anyone telling me he's a rookie and needs to learn. He's 53 years old, IIRC, and has been around the game such a long time. Its obvious to me why he's been around so long and never been an OC in the NFL. And look at his Rutgers team, it blew.
jackie hayes
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 07:04 PM) Maybe Shea wasn't the best guy for this job, but holding him responsible for that mess is like firing the weatherman in Thailand for not predicting the precipitation that came through... I really don't think he's being fired for the offense as a whole. It sounds like he was stubborn and wasn't really aware of what was going on on the field. I think he just proved unable to work with the people he needed help from. Don't know how large a part he had in bringing in Quinn, that could be part of it, too. (But just my speculation, I've got zero evidence for that.)
Chisoxfn
Shea isn't being fired for the system. The system has worked sucessfully. He's being fired for the way he implemented the system, ie his play calling and utter stubborness to listen to the rest of his coaches. Its been well documented that Drake (WR Coach) was fighting with Shea to get Gage out there. The bears feel that gage is the best reciever out there and he wouldn't get used by Shea. Then you have another assistant offensive coach who got in an argument with Shea during the Indy game when Shea called for a play with Clark and someone else and neither players were in the game. When the assistant coach came in and talked to Shea about it when the play call was made Shea just ignored his comments. Shea is a freaking prick bag. Shoop was never as incompetent as this deuche. AddisonStSox
The game against Houston sealed his fate. You give the ball to Jones for 10 carries, about 55 rushing yards, he fumbles, and then you give him about 7 touches for the rest of the game? What!? Although Shea isn't the sole reason why the Bears offense failed so miserably this season, he had to go. The Bears can't risk a second year with a guy the players/fans/coaching staff have no faith in. Good move by the Bears brass. Now, go get me Norm Chow. SoxFan562004
Yeah, the injuries did hurt the OL a lot this year, but this may be a case of Angelo and Lovie realizing this guy doesn't have what it takes to get the job done. They work with him every day, and you can have the best pedigree/resume on the market, but once you start doing the job it's pretty easy to spot a fraud. mreye
Sunday against the Pack was a perfect example. They came out using the run and then on the next drive went away from it.
Scwible
Wow, can't say I didn't see this coming from the comments made yesterday by Lovie and Jerry Angelo.
mreye
BTW, Isn't it just "Shea" not "O'Shea"? "O'Shea" is from "Little Giants."
DonkeyKongerko
Terry Shea was bad enough to deserve 2 threads about his firing.

The article i posted yesterday from the sun-times really opened my eyes with him. When i found out he called plays with people who arent even playing in that game, something was wrong. Also not listening to any players or coaches for adjustments really hurt him. This is a very good move for this organization.
SoxFan562004
Shea's play calling was mind boggling at times... I know someone already mentioned the three straight pass plays after successful series of runs, but what struck me as odd was some of the run plays he was calling. OK, Bears had a s***ty/injured OL. So what does he do? He calls delayed runs and fake reverses that require the OL to hold their blocks. He would have been better off calling exclusively dive plays and off-tackle plays. Let the OL try to use some of their size since they lack skill.
chimpy2121
Smith just said that he wants the system to be a running based system. I wish they had some choices for who they want.
dasox24
I think this was a good move. However, I don't like how the offense has to learn a new offense again this offseason. Hopefully we'll hire a guy that does a good job, and we'll have some stability for a while from the O-coordinator position.
WHarris1
YES! THERE IS A GOD! Let's just hope we don't get another POS to replace him.
bjam44
The play calling was a major reason why shea got the boot. I still think you need to bring in another Qb to compete for the job maybe rex is no the answer he has only played 6 games in two years. Also we need major help on our line thouse guys were bad. we also could use help at the skill spot a stud wideout is needed, also a tightend, and a back up running back needs to be found. The Bears are going to be sorry for letting the A train go....
southsideirish71
What ever happened to that nice man Mr. Shea. He used to buy me the 2 ply geriatric pampers that I loved. We need to make sure that grandma either sells the team or puts in a clause in her will that when she is done messing up the bears that any of her moronic spawn doesn't get their hands on it. We have a geriatric lady running our team. Great for us. Hey but we fired Shea. WOOO HOOO optimism is here to stay. Papa Bear is rolling in his grave with the stupidity that took over after him. SoxFan562004
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Any word on possible replacements? Very early speculation is if Mike Martz gets axed in St. Louis his name will pop-up (St. Louis owner did give him a vote of confidence which could be good or mean he's as good as fired) I think I heard they wanted to keep a similar scheme, so someone from the St. Louis/Kansas City coaching tree....
