Duke Of Chicago
The Cubs have offered Beltran 5 years 75 million. :fthecubs :fthecubs
WHarris1
2 mil/year less then what the Mets reportedly offered.
Pale Hose Jon
I don't know if that will get it done, i think he will get more from the yanks. Plus your paying sammy like 17 mil, for much less production than beltran
Buehrle>Wood
They embarressed themselves with that offer.
SoxFan562004
???? That is the most token offer I have ever heard... that is just hoping he really wants to play in Chicago, but the main point they did it is so they can show their fans that they tried, and trot out the philosophy of "we don't like deals longer than 5 years." WTF?!?! This is a total head scratcher. Did Levine say when they offered this? If this was within the last two days Boras must have laughed his ass off since it seems the mets are going to offer at least 7/100 and the Astros have offerred at least a similar offer if not more! (Houston also has the benefit of their contract being larger than any other paper deal from NY or IL since there's no state income tax in TX). I swear to f***ing God, if the media strokes Jim Hendry for making this offer I will go insane. I don't want to see Mariotti write something like "Bold Hendry Shows Cubs Fans he Cares!" or Rogers writing "Bravo! Hendry bucks the trend and sets his own market" Just imagine what the backlash would have been if KW and the Sox made a similar offer, because the facts are facts, the Cubs offerred 2 years and about 40 million dollars less than Boras was asking for!!! BTW, article on ESPN.com saying Mets are finalizing their offer, believed to come in over 100m, but of course they don't have ivy on the wall
SoxFan562004
I'm sorry, this offer boggles my mind, for anyone who heard it can you relay how Levine sounded when he said it. Did he say he didn't think it would get the deal done, or was he slobbing Hendry's knob? WTF, I feel like I'm drunk.....
AngelasDaddy0427
Beltran would have to be a complete moron to take that offer... Ohh well... :fthecubs
DonkeyKongerko
Borass would disown Beltran if he took that offer.

SoxFan562004
QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) stupid cubs, mets better get him what offer what i rather have 5yr 75 or ?yr 100?something definitely mets offer Yeah, and the Astros offer is atleast 6 years 84 million
Chisoxfn
Remember here. The Mets offer has yet to come in so the media can be wrong at that one. But if it does then sure the Cubs offer doesn't come close. I still think they made a rather fair offer. A couple weeks ago and Boras may of jumped at the deal when things were super quiet on the Beltran front.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) Yeah, and the Astros offer is atleast 6 years 84 million Well 5/75 is a better offer then 6/84 in terms of a per season basis. I think Houston has a better offer out there though, not positive on that though.
southsider2k5
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Well 5/75 is a better offer then 6/84 in terms of a per season basis. I think Houston has a better offer out there though, not positive on that though. For some reason I was thinking it was 6-96.
AddisonStSox
Not a snowball's chance in hell Beltran signs with the Cubs. Both the Astros and the Mets are going to dwarf that offer. The Mets have just offered an introductory offer of 7 years, $100M. Can't get em' all Hendry. :fthecubs :sosasucks
Chisoxfn
There is probably a good shot that maggs up on the northside though. If healthy he'll put up fantastic numbers there.
WilliamTell
The Mets are really going to town on salary this year. I doubt it'll work though.
Harry Chappas
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 11:34 AM) There is probably a good shot that maggs up on the northside though. If healthy he'll put up fantastic numbers there. Papers tend to think it is Hollandsworth and Dubois for the cub. maggs if sosa is moved. I would guess maggs goes to the loser between the Mets and Astros. Remember the Mets have Cameron for center. Think he will be moved to the Astors if the Mets sign beltran? A ton of mediocre pitchers have been overpaid already this offseason. No reason why the best position player available shouldn't be.

SoxFan562004
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor..._tim&id=1960521 good article about how much is Beltran really worth... makes some real good points, but the guy is still a stud
ChWRoCk2
i heard on the radio earlier he wants a minimum of 6 yrs and 100 million and last time i checked 75 was less than one hundred so you can count on seeing carlos in blue and orange (reference to the mets)
SoxFan562004
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/h...s_hou&fext=.jsp OK, any fear that the Cubs will swoop down and sign Beltran should be gone after this... Basically says Astros upped offer to 7 years 100m
