southsider2k5
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Not joking at all, I am just going to ask why he gave up Reed and were there other options available than giving up Reed. If he doesn't give a suitable answer, I will further my probing questions. It was either that or Crede. And if you are serious about competing for a division title you can't give up two starters in July. I know Reed is going to be good, but this is a deal that had to be made, and will benefit both teams.
Chisoxfn
One other thing on Davis. I wouldn't be shocked if someone would be interested in him. Maybe the Dodgers. Sox pick up 250K with Burke handling the backup duties. Gives the Sox enough flexibility to finalize a deal with Iguchi.

It would be nice to know if there were other alternatives, but there probably wasn't.
quickman
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) Don't worry, I've still got a few things planned, mainly centered around Jeremy Reed. In regards to this signing, I would like to see Davis traded now so that Burke can be kept on the roster to catch Buehrle. Won't happen, I actually think they like Davis expecially as a defensive replacement. he does have a decent arm. he is not going anywhere. Only possible saving grace for Burke is he can relieve at third base. Its a long shot, I think burke gets sent back down.

whitesox91403
Great Job KW. I am really happy about this offseason. Without Iguchi, KW gets an A. With him he gets an A+. I predict Iguchi signs tomorrow.
quickman
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) Next question is who gest dumped from the 40. I'm going with Paulino Reynoso. I will go with that considering he will probably never play for us....ever.

In regards to this signing, I would like to see Davis traded now so that Burke can be kept on the roster to catch Buehrle. I'm done thinking about the Reed/Olivo for Freddy/Ben deal. What's done is done. Gotta give something to get something, and I'd rather have a good pitcher than a good outfielder. I have no problems with what KW has done this winter. He followed the organization's plans and got good players. Will it be enough? Maybe, maybe not, but I'm enthusiastic about this year's team, and I didn't think I would be. That's earned KW a pass from me this year.

I know Reed is going to be good, but this is a deal that had to be made, and will benefit both teams. We weren't contending, we were pretending, like usual. Bottom line is, he gave up on a guy that could really help this club, regardless of what he got in return. If I want to ask him about Reed at Soxfest, so be it. Maybe he will actually admit it was a very tough decision and give an informative answer. Or he may curl up like a cheap tent and give me BS. Regardless, while everyone else gives him endless love, I am going to ask some tough questions. Another one is going to be, Is this your make or break year as GM if we fail to win the division for the fifth straight year?
Wise Master Buehrle
Bruce Levine seems pissed off about this. He was going on and on about him being a massive cancer. They had a clip of AJ talking and he said he never had a problem with any ChiSox players and that he has a lot of respect for them and that he also knows Frank and Buerhle. I love the guy to death (in a heterosexual way) but we got a good pitcher for 3+ years, good outfielders to build on and who are waiting in the wings (Anderson & Sweeney) We'll be ok without Reed. GoodAsGould
yeah i guess you cant give KW 2 much loving or it might go to his head but right now id give him an A for the off-season....and since JR really hates to fire people i doubt KW gets fired even if we end up in 3rd. Podsenick Rowand Dye Konerko Everett Uribe Pieryznski Crede Harris Im loving it and with fank in their instead of Everett

Not really, if you'd been around and see how we've folded the past few years, it was pretty damn predictable. Once Maggs was on the shelf, I don't think many gave the Sox a shot and rightfully so. The Beast
Today I can stand up again and say "i'm proud to be a Sox Fan." Now I don't pray to beat these teams, I know we can contend with the Yankees, Twins or the Red Sox anyday. Bring em on. I think he's got an A- for his off-season rating right now. We are no doubt going to be one of the most dangerous teams in the AL this year. I'm looking at the Central, and beyond, IF we get Iguchi, just because I don't see very many holes anymore. After the White Flag trade, if we are anywhere close in July, this team will be considered contenting, even if it is just for PR reasons. They made the White Flag mistake once, it wasn't about to happen again.

When we traded for him we were contending. Yeah, sure, they're history shows nothing but folding, but if you really thought that they were done when they traded for Garcia, then I'd have to question the fact that you're a White Sox fan. aboz56
QUOTE(Beastly @ Jan 6, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) Aboz, consider this quote. "You've got to give something to get something." Were you expecting us to trade Borchard instead? Wow, we lost Reed. Look what we gained? A pitcher who has been inconsistent for most of his career who may get hammered at the Cell? From what I saw, after coming over in the trade last year, he wasn't exactly dynamite. Don't get me wrong, I love Garcia. But if I want to ask KW about the trade, you all can wait in line behind me with your love letters.

You can disagree with me if you want to, I'll understand that. Lets play the games first. one average catcher does not make a season. there is a reason he only got 2.2 and a reason others didn't snap him up. Relax, we are better than we were yesterday but we are not a championship team.
