Steff
Bouncers charged with negligent homicide in Georgia student's death Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version NEW ORLEANS Three karaoke bar bouncers were formally charged with negligent homicide today, accused of suffocating a Georgia college student on the sidewalk outside their New Orleans night spot. 25-year-old Levon Jones died on New Year's Eve after scuffling with the bouncers outside Razzoo Bar and Patio on Bourbon Street. The coroner found two of the bouncers were responsible for Jones' death: one who held him in a headlock for 12 minutes and another who pushed down on his back. The third man held Jones' legs. 40-year-old Arthur Irons, 32-year-old Clay Montz, and 21-year-old Edward Matthew Taylor, surrendered to police last night and appeared before a magistrate judge today. They are free on on 20-thousand dollar bond. The men have a March 7 court date, when the District Attorney's office must confirm it will prosecute. Police but have not said what role each man played in the fight, which started after club workers refused to allow a friend of Jones to enter the club because his clothes did not meet the dress code. Jones' family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit claiming race was a factor in the fight. Jones was black and the bouncers are white. A lawyer for Razzoo has said the bouncers acted responsibly and would be cleared. Copyright 2004 Associated Press. All rights reserved. LosMediasBlancas
I have never understood how bouncers and the places that hire them don't get sued or charged more often. I have seen guys get beaten to near death outside of bars and clubs plenty of times by bouncers. The cops show up, get a 'report', call the ambulance and haul them away, end of story. Texsox
I never could figure out why most bouncers are hird for how well they can bust skulls and have people leave the premises when a bouncer who can calm the problem and have the people stay and buy more drinks would make a place more money. EvilMonkey
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) I have never understood how bouncers and the places that hire them don't get sued or charged more often. Kinda like the mantra used in 'Roadhouse' : "Be nice. Take it outside, and be nice. If the customer won't go, escort him, but be nice. If you need help, one of the others will help you, but be nice." Got thrown out of a bar once by a bounce. I think I broke my wrist then. It was either then, or a few hours later on the mechanical bull at Fred's Dance Barn. I kinda don't quite know which it was.
