hi8is
does designated for assignment mean that he is going to go back to AAA with us or we just let him go peroid and he will no longer be in our org.?
Molto
QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) does designated for assignment mean that he is going to go back to AAA with us or we just let him go peroid and he will no longer be in our org.? He has an option to go to AAA or become a free agent.

qwerty
White Sox designated catcher Jamie Burke for assignment. A.J. Pierzynski's arrival bumped Burke off the 40-man roster, but if he clears waivers, he'll likely get a chance to make the team out of spring training. Burke can play positions other than catcher and serve as a pinch-hitter. He's a decent 25th man. Jan. 7 - 4:26 pm et
BlackBetsy
Out of the Burke/Davis duo...I would have kept Burke. You know, I've always thought Burke was a journeyman, but he really did hit well in 2 seasons with the Sox over 128 at bats. Not the biggest sample size ever, but the guy showed a decent stick. But Davis is owed $1 million and was a 2nd round draft pick... so he'll stay. I'd like to see the Nationals pick up Burke to back up Schneider. AngelasDaddy0427
I'm scratching my head here. Doesn't Ozzie like having 3 catchers on the roster? Not only that he can play CIF and COF too. I hope no one claims him because he would for sure make the team in spring training. I just don't get this. Couldn't we have just moved a minor leaguer who had options off the roster? This ia a good gamble that will probably pay off for the sox. he probably will not get picked up, and be invited back to the sox. i would rather risk losing a 33 year journeyman catcher than a 22 year old prospect. Texsox
I thought he was the backup 3rd base option. Who would it be now?
WilliamTell
It's always hard seeing someone like Burke go. Sure he isn't a great player and never will be. But he worked hard to get to the major league level and did make it. I hope he stays in the organization.

Well i now further stress the Sox will pick up two more playrs as I contended in other threads. Uribe will slide over to third if needed. this is why I truly think the sox will pick up two more infielders.

The Sox will bring in TWO infielders, do you mean one won't be Kelly Dransfeldt? Mild surprise about Burke, but all this means is the Sox have somebody(s) on the line. Guest JimH
By the way ... At 3:20 update, Offman (Score) talked about the Iguchi thing. He claims no other team is seriously interested in Iguchi. As quickman said, the ball is in the Sox court. Either Iguchi wants to play in the U.S. or not. There are lots of ways to get creative with the contract ... incentives, etc. Not that I totally believe Offman but this is negotiating, they are still talking. 103 mph screwball
I like Burke. I wish him luck where ever he plays next year. That being said, I feel he is a walking reminder of the Hunter incident. It's not fair to him, but everytime he comes up, I remember the play that seemed to suck the life out of the Sox last year. I think that if he goes, this may be part of the reason.

Punch and Judy Garland
When you have a quality hitting left-handed catcher and the backup is a switch-hitter, there is probably virtually no need for three catchers. If Uribe is the backup 3rd baseman in a pinch (assuming Kelly stays in AAA) then hopefully whoever we get to play second-base could fill in a little at third-or be able to play 2nd-3rd. I agree on Burke, they will try to get him through waivers, which he cleared last year mid summer or around then. My role is to point out when you steal my ideas and claim them as your own. We agree they will find a way to get Iguchi, but if it's not done by SoxFest I say they will pass. This Alex Cora being connected to Scott Boras throws a monkey wrench in things, otherwise I'd bet they'd have it done already. Iguchi and Cora, Harris bye bye. You are way too serious about these things, I'm serious. I can't help having a little fun with you, you are so quick to annoyance, it's a riot. (peeks around corner, looking for juggernaut). The fact is, they need to deepen the bench, big time. You need a guy who can very capably play SS, you don't go for a pennant with Wilson Valdez if Uribe gets hurt or trips on some Chicken McNuggets. As I've stated to you, I wouldn't be surprised with a trade to bring in an infielder. But how can you remember anything I say when you're always yapping? Are you a chick or what? We have had so many conversations you don't know what your talking about. We both agree they will get two more infielders. if they sign Iguchi they will still try to bring someone in or use dransfedt or some other piece of s*** minor league player we have stacked up on. If they don't they could try for cora and another player not in our system. Is Rich Aurilla still available? I know we hate this idea, but he plays ss and third. Any more names to throw out?
