Chisoxmatt
I know, but if we actually make it to the playoffs and our hitting sub par we would have some pitching to carry us.
JUGGERNAUT
Speed? : Improved with Pods Rotation? : Improved with El-Duque Defense? : Improved with Dye. Hitting? : Improved with healthy Dye, Thomas, & AJ. Relief? : Improved with Hermannson a lot, Luis a little. Meanwhile the Twinks lost Koskie, Guzman, Mientcy. Re-vamping their IF in 2005. What's the probabilities the new guys will be as good or better D than the old ones? If you were a betting man you would say the CWS improved over last yr's injury plagued team at the same time the Twinks got weaker. That should give the CWS a nod in the div race. But there are intangibles in these races. Can this CWS team beat the pairs of Santana-Radke & Westbrook-Sabathia? Because that's really been the difference in the division. We haven't been able to beat the top pitchers in the ALC or the AL period. All in all I give the CWS a slight edge over the Twinks & CLE. lvjeremylv
Can this CWS team beat the pairs of Santana-Radke & Westbrook-Sabathia? Because that's really been the difference in the division. We haven't been able to beat the top pitchers in the ALC or the AL period. All in all I give the CWS a slight edge over the Twinks & CLE. I slightly disagree. In 2003, for instance, I don't know about the top duo on each of the AL Central teams, but the Sox 1/2 combo at the end of the year was Loaiza and Buehrle, and they combined for a 35-23 record with a 3.53 ERA. That's not Cy Youngesque, but I don't think any duo in the Central that season bettered that. It's certainly as good as any other team. And obviously their offense has been at the top of the division probably each of the last 3-4 seasons. So what's been the problem? It seems to me that the Sox always end up choking at *just* the right time in *just* the right spot. When they need a big pitch, they don't get it. When they need a big hit, they don't get it. When they need a big defensive play, they don't get it. When they need the ball to bounce one way, it bounces the other. SOMETHING always seems to end up going wrong for the White Sox. It all comes down to attitude and actually believing that you can win. If things pan out well for the Sox and their new players can bring a positive outlook to the clubhouse, I can see good things happening in the coming years. JUGGERNAUT
02-04: Westbrook vs CWS: 3W-1L Sabathia vs CWS: 5W-2L Santana vs CWS: 3W-3L Radke vs CWS: 6W-4L Maroth vs CWS: 4W-3L Robertson vs CWS: 2W-1L Johnson vs CWS: 2W-2L Over the past 3 yrs we do not have a winning record vs the 1-2 starters of the Twinks, the Tribe, & the Tiggers. You can not expect to win a division as long as that is the case.
Chisoxmatt
QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) Well, I was more excited about the 1984 team. We were coming off winning the division by 20 games and we had added Tom Seaver to the rotation. Things didn't go so well... NUKE_CLEVELAND
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Are we good enough, yes, are are we going to that remains to be seen and until we beat the twins I won't bet againt Minny. The burden of proof is defenitely on the Sox at this point.
Texsox
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) The burden of proof is definitely on the Sox at this point. This could be an interesting season. I think the Tigers will be even stronger and the Royals could rebound, and of course Cleveland could get hot. I can't wait until the 40 game mark and see who's contendin and who's pretendin.
JUGGERNAUT
This would look better: Pods Durham Thomas/Rowand Koney Rowand/Dye Dye/Everett Uribe AJ Crede Take a look at Rays numbers vs the ALC & Westbrook, Sabathia, Moroth, Johnson, Radke, & Santana. He's exactly what we need.

LDF
and if some of the question marks concerning pitching turns to be pretenders, then it is going to be a long summer. duke, cont and garland. well it is not fair for me to include garland there, he will give us 10-14 wins and 175+ innings.. i hope he does better being in the #5 hole. but the other 2???? You have a valid concern here, but our 3-4-5 slots have a lot less degree of being question marks than last year. Or better yet, they have a better chance of not being a disappointment. shingoisgod
QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jan 9, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) With additions such as Hermanson, Podsednik, Hernandez, and Pierzynski, is this the team that finally frigures out a way to beat the Twins and get us into the playoffs? Are there more moves that need to be done in order for the up and coming season to be successful or do think that we have done all we needed to this off season? Im not very sure about that. I like all those additions however we lost significant power in our lineup that we depended on aka lee and mags. I am really excited about our rotation though. Behind Garcia Buehrle Hernadez contreras and garland (who is now 5th in the rotations as opposed to 3rd) they may have the ability to carry them

We don't know if this reconfiguration of the Chicago White Sox is going to work at all. It may go right in the crapper. Welcome to Soxtalk! Westbrook & Sabathia own winning records vs us & if Milwood can return to his Braves form that could give them the edge over us in the season series. But I would say that IF is pretty big. As big as Contreras winning 15 games for the CWS. If that happens we should win the division.
