chimpy2121
Figure this is an important thread to start since he might be the #1 overall. BTW this is per ESPN and their show 1st and 10, a segment turned show off of cold pizza.
Confederate_48
He should go but I think he will stay
Palehosefan
Depending on what offense he ends up in at the NFL, he could have more talent at USC than the NFL team. I still think he should go while his stock is so high.
AddisonStSox
9 times out of 10, I advocate a jump to the pros. However, Leinart's case is a little different. If he stays, he could be the second two-time Heisman winner along with Archie Griffin and the first ever player to win three consecutive National Championships. If he goes pro, he'll be a lock in the top 5 and will make millions. He has a tough decision to make. What a life huh?
Soxbadger
I think the decision is easy. While you can break college records, what will that get you in the end? As a top 5 pick and probably 1 over all, regardless of what happens after that point his entire life will be set. Risk vs reward, there is no question, especially since he can not really improve his stock. SB
Palehosefan
Injuries don't happen often, but its still a risk to stay another year. Not to mention if Norm Chow leaves, that could make Leinart look a little worse this year. One plus I see is that this QB class is pretty well stocked and next years class isn't anything special at this point.
Confederate_48
I just think he would stay because all of his receivers and running backs will be back so they will be going for the Championship again. I think itd be alot more fun to go for a national championship then go to a bad nfl team to struggle and lose alot.
Soxbadger
Id hope any player that I was considering taking at 1, would think that they were good enough to make any team compete, especially a QB taken at 1. Also, with the 49ers having the first pick, he would most likely get a chance to be the 49ers QB, and as a Cali guy, I cant imagine what you could want more than being the QB of the 49ers, just like Montana and Young. Just my opinion. SB
ChWRoCk2
the question isnt will he stay or will he go, its does he want to be a 49er or not?
ChWRoCk2
but to answer your question i think he'll stay in usc
witesoxfan
Do you risk pulling a Lee Evans? He's gotta go pro. His value will almost undoubtedly never be higher, as he almost assuredly will be a top 3 pick, perhaps #1. You can't get any better then that
chimpy2121
Now he's waiting til tomorrow to decide.... "I need an extra day to continue gathering information," the USC quarterback said Thursday, the day he originally set as his deadline for the decision. Time for the announcement is set for 4:30 central
SnB
He's gonna go pro....he'd be stupid not to. He's never going to be more thought of than right now. If he's goes back, yeah he might win another championship, but he might also not have as great of a season as this one...also the injury part. He'll go pro. chimpy2121
I find this hard to believe but maybe just maybe he actually does really care about winning the 3rd championship, staying in college, and enjoying himself. I know a lot of pros would rather take the money but what if he doesnt care about the $$ right away. Maybe he just wants to live his life through the way he wants. I highly doubt this is the case though. Hell, I wouldnt want to play for the 49ers either if I was him.
LDF
he won championship games, is prob the #1 rated qb and player this yr and prob next yr and will prob be proj to go #1 next yr as well. however what happens if he injures himself. if it was me, i will go pro. this is a great example of why some players should enter any draft early. aboz56
In more important news, he is dating Jessica Simpson's best friend Casey. Major props to you, Mr. Leinert.
Chisoxfn
I'd go pro no doubt, but a lot of people think he really wants to stay. I think he knows he probably should go pro, but he likes USC and wants to play for a 3rd National Championship. I heard he's going to graduate early so he'll have his degree by the start of the football season.
AddisonStSox
Stunned. Leinart, the sure-fire #1 pick, passed on going pro to stick around one more year to go after not only his third consecutive National Championship (a feat the likes of which have never been seen) but also a second Heisman. Hats off to Mr. Leinart. I simply can not find fault in a kid's decision to pass up millions of dollars to stay in school, show loyalty, and make history. I wish there were more collegiate athletes like Matt. Here's hoping he doesn't get injured and earns the poll position in 2006. Class act.
