SoxFan562004
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 03:41 PM) You know, I really that was due to the nature of the injury. He tore his tricep, and I believe that effected his swing that whole season after he returned from the injury. I really hope with all the steroid/supplement activities coming to light Frank gets more attention. While all these juiced up monsters were putting up bigger numbers than Frank I think he became an afterthought in many ways. But I hope when he retires the national media picks up on the idea that he was most likely a clean player (In my opinion there's no chance in hell the man used steroids, and I know most people would agree with me) and deserves more credit than say a Giambi, who beat him out for MVP in 2000 I believe
Sanjay2000
The best player on the Sox, relative to other players at his position, is Damaso Marte. Marte wins the Sox between 10-15 games a year on his own. I always feel so confident every time Ozzie Guillen brings him in, especially with the Sox leading or the game on the line. Nearly every time, he comes through and that was why they Sox won so many one run games early in the year. Marte did struggle slightly last year but I think he was overworked because the rest of the pen was weak. This year, I expect Hermanson and Vizcaino to help him out and for this reason, I would not be surprised to see him post a sub 2.00 era. In my opinion, Marte is the best left-handed reliever in all of baseball. As far as relief pitchers, I believe that only Eric Gagne, Mariano Rivera, and John Smoltz, when he was a closer, were better than Marte and he is a future superstar. Punch and Judy Garland
I think we have to look in the mirror. Frank Thomas is a national afterthought because he is underappreciated by Sox fans in general. He can be a bit of a kuncklehead when he opens his mouth, but he's not a bad guy and he's been a HOF hitter for us. I'd like to see more #35 jerseys around town. I think that people turfed Frank in favor of Magglio and it was a bit disrespectful to the Big Hurt. I'd like for 2005 to be the year of reembracing the big man. There is certainly truth in what you say. I did think it turned around some last year, the fans treated him much better. Of couse it helped he was hitting. lvjeremylv
QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 15, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) There is certainly truth in what you say. I did think it turned around some last year, the fans treated him much better. Of couse it helped he was hitting. He also had a much more friendly demeanor about him. I think that was just as big of a factor in winning back the fans' support as his production was -- but 42 HR never hurts.
SoxAce
Frank Thomas is the best player on the sox period. And will be until he's not here anymore or if someone puts up insane numbers like he still does when healthy.

DBAHO
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) Yep, now would be the time. He'll most likely be gone next year. I'd seriously doubt that. Even if the Sox don't pick up his $10 or $11 million option, I think Thomas can pick up his own $13 million option for 2006, he definitely won't get that kind of money elsewhere. Could impact on Konerko negotiations as well.

GreatScott82
I'm not sure if Frank is the best all around player on the Sox but we should all appreciate him. He walks all the time (which means starting pitchers pitch counts increase faster) He is patient, and when 100% he is still one of the most dangerous hitters in the game. Yes 2005 should be Frank appreciation year. Lets hope he returns very soon, and doesn't miss too much of the season.
JUGGERNAUT
If you look at last season after Maggs went down in Jun the team was still very competitive. But then Frank went down in Jul & the team tanked hard. Betw Jul & Aug over those 55-60 gms they were 10 gms in the hole. Sep was surprisingly strong but I think that had more to do with our callups being better than most others. It's definitely Frank. No other player on this team can impact winning or losing like he can.
