What is going on with Contreras contract? I'm pretty sure this is the last year of his contract. If not how much and how long is it for?

The reason I ask is because I believe Mulder is a free agent next winter. He grew up a Sox fan and he is by far one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. Any chances of landing him?

It's not the last year of his contract... we average paying him 7M the next two seasons.

ouch 7 million for a guy who has yet to prove himself. :huh

Hmm it makes you wonder if they would've just kept Loaiza and signed him for a cheap contract like the Nationals did, they would have had more money to spend to sign Clement. What would you rather have Clement and Loaiza or the Cuban connection? I guess only time will tell.

Signed through 2006, the 32-year-old Cuban defector is owed $12 million from the White Sox over the next two seasons, with the Yankees picking up the remaining $3 million on his contract.

Mulder has a team option for $7.25 million for 2006.

Here's another source:

Contreras has $17,382,978 remaining on his contract. The Yankees are giving the White Sox money to cover $1 million of his $7 million salary next year and $2 million of his $8 million salary in 2006.

I was using dugoutdollars on the 8&9 figures, and common sense(I thought, knowing how we backload contracts) on the 2&1 figures.

It doesn't really matter, the point is we're stuck paying him a lot of money the next two years.

Is it a lot compared to Perez, Lowe, Milton, Benson, Wright and Pavano?

Wait a minute...I read Santo's posts after I posted...so it IS 6 million a year?

Tons of misinformation out there --- Nobody knows --

http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1224/1482132.html

His deal calls for a $6 million signing bonus, with $2 million payable in each of the first two years and $1 million in each of the final two years, and annual salaries of $4 million, $7 million, $7 million and $8 million.

That again puts his $$$ due at $8M & 9M, with the yankees picking $3M over the next two. Interpret it as you wish.

Cheat, here's a story from ESPN.com when the trade was made.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1850088

Just one minute before baseball's 4 p.m. trade deadline, the Yankees acquired 20-game winner Esteban Loaiza from the Chicago White Sox for enigmatic right-hander Jose Contreras and $3 million Saturday.

Later in the article;

Cashman said Contreras has $17 million left on his

So he had $17 million left on his deal at the time of the trade.

$6 million per it is for the next 2 years.

I hope Contreras has more dominant days than crappy ones. Honestly when he's on his game IMO he has the nastiest stuff in the rotation. I'm not sure if he is worth $6 mill per year though. Being consistant is key for Contreras in 2005.

This has been a test of the Emergency Who's Right Network.

In the event someone is actually right, you'll be intructed to turn to a station for pertinient information.

Repeating. This has only been a test.

We now take you back to your normal bickering.

I'm 99% sure that the Sox will be paying 6 mill a season for the next two years in regards to Contreras.

I'll make it simpler for you. The Sox owe him betw 6-7M/yr for the next 2 yrs. If he breaksout in 05, they will keep him at that price. If Garland has a better year he'll probably be seeking 5M/yr. That's the min price these days for an experienced above avg starter. That's what Garland would be with a better year.
