BHAMBARONS
Thanks for the good answers about Pedro & Andy. Now I have some questions about what I like to call the Baron role players of last season, People like Scott Bikowski who had his 3rd season of AA last year he still hits the ball well at Hoover Met. I know he struggled @ the beginning of last season in charlotte. Norm Martel he was a 4th outfielder last year in Winston then is Called up to Bham and excels hitting 10 Bombs and hitting for a Good Avg. And Finally Brian Becker he was a Baron for a short time and I know he has been around a while but he still had decent power numbers @ both Bham and Winston. Thanks for the help Tom
Chisoxfn
All three would fit the non-prospect category. As far as Bikowski goes, one of the posters here has a fascination with him (Heads) and he's going to tell you Bik is god, but in all honesty he's a good AA hitter and is definately a good guy to have on the Barons, but in terms of minor league potential there is none. The same can be said for both Martel and Becker. One thing about Becker is he definately can hit for power but he's strictly a DH. I don't know how Becker's power will translate in Birmingham but he could turn into a nice platoon player in Bham. My guess is Rogo will be playing LF/1st with the newly acquired 1st baseman from the Brewers getting a lot of time at 1st. Then Becker would get some ab's at DH, maybe ocassionally at first, just depends on how the breakdown is. I could say a little more but I'm not positive as to what other veterans the Barons will have. Not too familiar with Martel. I just know he's basically been a minor league role player, but he definately fit in nice with the Barons last year hitting around .300 if I recall. Remember while I say these guys aren't major leaguers, it doesn't mean they aren't valuable guys to have. All the minor league affiliates need to win for there fan base, like yourself, and its the minor leauge free agents, veterans and role players that really can help a minor league team win. Heads22
Bik disappointed me last year. I expected a AAA season out of him. My guy now is Adam Ricks, but I'll still cheer for Big Bik.
Rex Hudler
Is Becker still in the Sox org? My guess is he is done. Biko has a nice stroke, but I doubt he will get the opportunity to play every day in Charlotte. He certainly didn't last year and that hurt him. I do think he could hit AAA pitching, but not with enough authority to move beyond that level. Martel is an organizational role player and that is it. He is generally a reserve OF. He got playing time last year in Bham due to injuries. He played well, but he'll get lost in the see of Anderson, Sweeney, Rogowski, Spidale and minor league free agents the Sox may sign (they have already signed Tony Alvarez, who will end up in Charlotte). Guys you COULD see back in Birmingham this year are Spidale, Heath Phillips, Corwin Malone (likely), even possibly Bullard, although I'd hope he will make it in Charlotte's bullpen. With the Sox rotation and bullpen pretty close to set, Charlotte's staff will be crowded.

Rex Hudler
QUOTE(MnSoxFan @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) Becker resigned with org. Why? Why would he want to re-sign when he has spent the past two years at Class A after having reached AA in another organization. Does someone have to smack him in the face to make him realize there is no plan for him?
