Al Lopez Ghost (old)
QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Back on track now .... I think John Candy liked the Sox as well. John Candy made a movie called "Only the Lonely" with Ally Sheedy which featured a scene wherein Candy had a picnic at night in old Comiskey - Sox were out of town - and the scoreboard exploded. Not a great movie, but it's nice to have when you want to see the old park. The movie came out in 1991, had to be filmed in 1990.
Yossarian
QUOTE(NO!!MARY!!! @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) He is? Isn't he from Texas? I'm surprised to see that. And while everyone is on the subject of Al Capone, Eliot Ness mentions in the book The Untouchables going to Comiskey Park to see the White Sox play the Yankees, and Ted Lyons striking out Babe Ruth twice. One of his fellow agents cheered "like a kid" according to Ness. Colonel Donald P. Conroy, the real-life "Great Santini" was indeed a White Sox fan. In fact, the book mentions the Sox a few times. Robert Duvall mentions them once in the movie. Two great Chicago writers were also White Sox fans: Nelson Algren and James T. Farrell. They mention the Sox several times in their books. As for living White Sox fans, other posters pretty much covered them. Most, if not all, A-list celebs from Chicago are *sneer* Cub fans. One famous White Sox fan that no one had mentioned is former Vice-President Dan Quayle. Take that for what it's worth. Glad you mentioned Algren and Farrell, two of the best novelists the country ever produced. Algren wrote a good condensed account of the Black Sox scandal entitled The Swede Was a Hard Guy, and a humorous look at the 59 WS for the Sun Times, Go! Go! Go! Forty Years Ago. Yoda
Dr. Dre, Twista, and The Game are White Sox fans. All three are rap artists. Come to think about it, they may only like the Sox because of the logo. They may not even know there’s a White Sox, but whatever...
john2499
John Hughes is a Sox Fan. He declared so during the DVD commentary on "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".

Al Lopez Ghost (old)
From Monday's Sun TImes: "The biggest White Sox fan in the world? That would be Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who in a conversation with Eddie Einhorn last week, said he first became hooked on baseball watching the Sox play the Dodgers in the 1959 World Series. Jabbar said that he was a big Dodgers fan back then, largely because he revered Jackie Robinson, but he said if Einhorn sent him a cap - size 71/2 - he'd wear it." BlizzardOfOzzie
f*** the Packers, and f*** Jay Mariotti. Mariotti knows jack s*** about everything and anything he writes about. He knows nothing about hockey, yet writes about it today in his column. He's a f***ing moron, a stooge. It will be a glorious day when he's no longer in this damn city... //My rant of the week. Whatever, dude. You're just bitter and pissed because the Bears Still Suck. Not Mariotti's problem and sure as f*** no problem for me. I've been enjoying things since 1992, much like you enjoyed the 1980's. Deal with it. I put up with fatass William Perry running over George Cumby in 1985 and all that other bulls***, but who cares? As long as McCaskey owns the Bears, I've got nothing to worry about. f*** 'em. Mariotti RULES. It amuses me to think that every day people turn their first back page of the Sun-Times over to see that picture of Mariotti looking all stuck-up with a smirk on his face to tell you HOW IT IS once again. Cracks me up. The Sox are the only Chicago team I'll ever root for, so I could give a hot mad fat flying f*** what he says about the other teams in "Bear Country". His Sox bashing doesn't influence me and his columns shouldn't dictate your mood either. He does his job and does it well. If you don't like it, don't f***ing read it. My rant of the week. :headshake
