Chisoxmatt
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) None of you listen to what Ozzie says. Do you? Ozzie has repeatedly stated NO SKIPPED STARTS! As long as all 5 starters remain healthy & effective they will all get a scheduled start every 5th day. This is going to considerably reduce the load on Mark & Freddy. They will have several 5 day rest periods between starts throughout the season. Ozzie has a target of 200-210 ip for each starter & an avg of 33 starts. Mark should be fine. Hernandez is the biggest risk. I hope Ozzie changes his mind. Yeah, Mark should have less innings this year now that we have a real 5th starter. Going on three days rest like buehrle and garland did a few times in 04 will certainly not happen again in 05. I like that Ozzie has it all planned out, but is it wise to have OH pitch 200 inn.? Wouldnt 170-180 be the ideal amount of innings for him? He is so incredibly fragile that it is ridiculous.
elrockinMT
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) ... with a 35 oz ball bat! Maybe swung by our #35 himself? That will be the next baseball wizard insight: "Frank might not return and will he be the same Big Hurt as before?" Foot injuries are the end of course. Mark is gonna pitch over 200 inning this year...he has so much smooth innings and rarely has one of those innings that he's out there for half hour milking the cow.. You forget that he's thrown maybe 115 pitches in a game cause he does it seems with out effort..batters foul alot of pitches of him sometimes...but I don't see thinks changing..Ozzie is gonna leave him out there as long as he's doing good and not bases on pitch count. I know he will get 200 innings. I just dont think he will have 245 like in 04. I figure he will have around 215-225.

I figure he will have around 215-225. I'm gonna agree with that..I think Ozzie left him out there longer cause he wasn't that confidence with pen. Since our pen is much improved this year he won't hesitate to pull Mark to go to the pen

Ozzie did make it a point to say that he is going to decreases Marks inning to about 200 total. He feels great about this bullpen, and as long as they preform, he plans on giving all of his starters less innings.
JUGGERNAUT
For the record I am not in the Ozzie camp on this. I think they should use El-D as sparingly as possible. Even with the goofy off days they can do that on 4 days rest & skip EL-D starts. That would drop El-D down to about 25+ starts. If El-D goes down at mid-season I"M BLAMING OZZIE!
