I go strictly by FG% because the PPG could come from O-Reb, and FT, and because the Bulls are #1 in FG%. Opp. FG% shows that you're forcing them to take tough shots and not giving them any open looks.

I guess it could go either way for #1 defensively. I was thinking of it like if the bulls played the spurs, going by the stats, the spurs would win 91-86.

PPG is very subjective. As was pointed out, that could be altered by great defensive rebounding, not allowing second chances, or it could be something not at all a result of the defense, and that is how long the offense holds the ball. A team that works the shot clock into the red everytime they have the ball is going to compress the game, and create a lot less posessions, which means a lot less chances to score.

Which is why I and a lot of other NBA watchers and anylists go by opp. FG% because it shows you're not giving the opponents open looks at the basket, that you're contesting every shot which is what defense is all about. Staying on your man and containing, give him nothing easy and make him work for every damn shot.

Entering the season, I'd have laughed at any talk of playoffs.

The way they play now, with the focus on defense, I think they have a legit shot at the playoffs, and not just the 8th spot, wither.

Who'da thunk it???

I just get gitty thinking about the Bulls, it's just f***ing amazing that they are this good.

There are so many other things to look at as well, including strength of schedule, rise/peak/fall trends, injuries or suspensions, tempo, etc. Ya can't just look at OPPONENTS FG% and call it a day.

The Bulls are the #1 defensive team in the league? When did Jordan, Pippen, and Rodman get back? I must have missed that.
