Texsox
Now add another message board that someone heard the rumor and people are talking about it. . . It must be even closer to the truth with all these message boards talking about it. Notice the pattern. Just because a lot of message boards are talking about it doesn't mean squat. Find the root, find someone even close to official, before starting to believe it.
Jabroni
You beat me to it, TLAK! Kubel's out the entire year, and Ford and Restovich are corners, not CFers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even with Kubel out they still have Stewart, Ford, Jones, and Restovich to play the outfield. Ford played 46 games in CF last year for the Twins and the Metrodome has an extremely easy CF. Obviously, Gardenhire has no problem playing Ford in CF. That's why I included the word "RUMOR" in the subject of the thread. Aren't you the same clown that asked why the Nelson thread was in the Pale Hose forum? At least that had something to do with Sox chatter and possible Sox outcomes. This has absolutely nothing to do with the White Sox. If you are going to post a TWINS/ASTROS RUMOR, I think that merits a spot in the SportsBar. Clown. :headshake

T R U
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Personally, I say f*** the rivalry and I would much rather see the Sox kicking the Twins ass everytime...but thats just me though. No your right.. anyone who wouldnt be sad to see Hunter go due to "Rivalry" purposes has a problem In case you didnt notice before the Twins own the AL Central
GoodAsGould
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) I actually heard about this rumor a few weeks ago. If I remember right, Hunter lives down in Texas and would like to play down there. But the rumor I heard might've involved the Rangers instead. Not quite sure though. the rangers arent going to trade Hunter 1. Their trying to use all their money to sign Delgado and 2. They got laynce nix an up and coming CF who is cheap and only like 23. JUGGERNAUT
If they do this they will without a doubt be known as the cheapest SOB's in all of MLB. Pohlad is a billionaire. That puts him in the elite class of MLB owners. If this is there answer to having to spend 3M to secure Santana, Lohse, & Silva .. very sad. I for one will be glad to see Hunter go to the Astros & I will root for him every time I see him play (especially vs the Cubs) but you really have to question whether MLB should have just let the Twins fold when Pohlad pretty much had a deal in place to do just that. Are the Twins unsellable? Is there no rich guy out there who wants to buy the Twins? Why does Pohlad remain the owner after he tried to contract his team? I certainly won't weep over this move but knowing what a cheap bastard their owner is I wouldn't put it past them.

I'd rather see the Sox have to pass a more difficult Twins team with Hunter. I know the Twins have owned the AL Central the past few years, that's why it'd be so much more meaningful to beat that same group of players. BlackBetsy
QUOTE(farmteam @ Jan 23, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) You beat me to it, TLAK! Kubel's out the entire year, and Ford and Restovich are corners, not CFers. I think Ford has played CF when Hunter has been injured/resting, and is passable enough to hold it down for a while. Heck, nobody thought Rowand was a CF, but he's turned out to be more than a passable (if not very good) defensive CF. This guy the Twinks have coming up at shortstop worries me - supposedly he can really hit. That's exactly what the Sox need - a Twinkie shortstop that can hit and is cheap. I wish the Sox had this kind of farm system depth. There's not a single guy who is major league ready at an infield position in the minors. And Josh Fields, who's been with the Sox organization for all of seven months, is probably closest to being ML ready. Scary. (That said, Brandon McCarthy might be one of the top 5 pitching prospects in baseball, and starting pitching is FAR more valuable than anything else. Ugh. I just remembered Jon Rauch). witesoxfan
I could see this happening, and it wouldnt surprise me in the least if it did. I did say going into the offseason that the Twins would be wise to try and move Hunter this offseason, considering how much he is making and that he is coming off a solid year. If they could get a package of Backe and Ensberg for him, or something similar, they could have themselves robbery. An OF with Stewart in LF and Jones and Ford in CF and RF is still respectable defensively and solid offensively. Also, getting Ensberg would allow them to make Cuddyer a super-sub...he would have the ability to be a backup at 3B, 2B, 1B, LF, and RF. That kind of depth is always nice to have on teams. Yeah thats great logic seeing that we obviously havent been able to beat them for years now... That's why I included the word "RUMOR" in the subject of the thread. Well it didn't seem to be on the Twinds board, or the Astros board, which board did you read it on? What I was pointing out is how these rumors start to seem valid just because it's on a few boards.

southsider2k5
Jaques Jones was a good CF before Hunter got to the bigs. It just happens that Hunter is a gold glover. I don't see why with 6 weeks in spring training Jones couldn't go back to CF.

Yeah thats great logic seeing that we obviously havent been able to beat them for years now... YET you want one of the man players in that stretch to STAY!? thats ridiculous Wishing a key player leaves an opponent is a cheap ass (JR?) way of 'improving' your team ("Hey, we just improved our chances of winning the division and we didn't spend a dime!"). It would be nice if we improved our chances by actually improving our team, i.e. - spending more or spending more wisely. Preferably both. If all the Central teams lose key players to the point were we are a lock for the division at 85-86 wins then all that means is we get to lose three more games in October ....... in a row. Let's aim higher.
AnthraxFan93
Various message boards and Astros fans. With the Twins' payroll constraints it kind of makes sense since Torii is set to make alot of money in 2005 and 2006. And don't forget that the Twins have a load of young, cheap outfield talent in Lew Ford, Michael Restovich, and Jason Kubel who are all MLB-ready. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Man I wish we had a farm system like that.. instead we are stuck with the likes of Joe Bochard :puke I could see Minny doing it for the players mentioned a couple of posts about this one.
