qwerty
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) I know he signed a 1 year deal with his team in Japan for this season, and from what I've heard next year teams in the MLB can bid on him, but I'm not sure if that's 100%. I'll have to find out. If that is the case it's probally gonna be like ichiro. How teams had to make a bid on him just to talk a contract with him. The mariners spent like ten or twelve million just to have the rights to talk with him.

Jabroni
Good lord, look at Koji Uehara's nasty numbers! http://www.japanesebaseball.com/players/pl...p?PlayerID=1071
gotoh00
I like Uehara over Matsuzaka. Uehara has a sharp fastball and a great forkball. He's not afraid to pitch inside and stuck out Barry Bonds 3 times in an exhibition game. Overall, Matsuzaka has better stuff but he's a punk. Great fastball, curve, slider, and circle-change but shows guys up too much. Thinks he's the best at everything and is prone to the long ball. Once got a huge fine for illegal parking in front of his girlfriend's house and had his trainer pay for it.

But do you think that matsuzaka comes over next year or the year after?
gotoh00
He'll be over in 2006 since his team doesn't want to lose him in free agency for nothing. Probably will aution him off to the highest bidder for 10 mil. He's still a punk though.
Wise Master Buehrle
Matsuzaka is VERY young. A year with Ozzie would really kick his ass in line, or so I would believe. Ozzie doesn't take no s***, case in point, Willie Harris.
qwerty
QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 10:58 PM) Matsuzaka is VERY young. That is the main reason i would take him over uehara
gotoh00
No one here has even considered lefty Igawa. He's the youngest of the three with the most nasty stuff. Very hard fastball with an unhitable circle change. Great control and poise too. Will probably be auctioned off in 2006 too.

gotoh00
Igawa wants into the majors bad right now but his team refused to put him on the auction block this off-season. He gets his free agency in three years but the owners promised they would let him go after next season.
DBAHO
If Garland has a bad season, and is non - tendered, the Sox would be wise to have a look at the starting pitchers from Japan who will be on the market hopefully.
YASNY
Unless Garland's arm falls off, there's no way in hell they non-tender him. That's insane. He's got too much trade value to even consider just letting him walk.

He's got too much trade value to even consider just letting him walk. I know, I'm just throwin out the possibility in case he has a real bad year, and the Sox decide they can't get much in a trade for him (although looking at the market for starting pitchers this off-season, that's extremely doubtful). Contreras could be a good possibility to be moved, and then El Duque may injure his arm again, plus you've got B-Mac who could be ready by 2006. Still a lot of external factors to consider. Could you please stop being so pessimistic and just imagine what our team would be like if Crede and Garland finally get "it," Contreras stops relying on his splitter, and Neal Cotts stops walking batters? JUGGERNAUT
Garland will never be non-tendered by the Sox. Ever. You can never ignore the story that surrounds him. The trade & all that. Garland is good for a near 500 season every year. That's is his bad. We have endured his bad for 3 yrs in a row. It doesn't get any worse than this with Garland. We are waiting to experience his good.
