WSFAN35
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Has Willie played any SS in the minors? High school? Babe Ruth? 2B and SS are two distinctly different positions. Just because he can play doesn't mean he can play the other. Willie came up playing CF and 2B in the minors. We now know he can't play CF except in an emergency basis. Now people expect him to play SS in the majors?! Besides his weak arm, his poor footwork, and his not having played the position before, he'd be a great candidate for SS. Wilson Valdez runs rings around Harris at SS. If Harris can't play SS better than him, there is no need to have this conversation QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) They should give him a shot in spring training, what have we got to lose? kdhargo
Honestly, why would Detroit even want Harris? They have a plethura of MIF in Guillen, Infante, Martinez, Smith and Vina. CF is just as crowded for them as well.
JUGGERNAUT
Ok, then for those who say he can't play SS because of his arm then you have to rule him out for playing an OF position for us or any one else. That means he's a 1-dim player in the field. If that's true then trade him.

But they do have Infante at 2B already with Ramon Martinez who they just signed as a utility guy.
Cubs Suck23
Tampa Bay could be a possible trade partner since they have 3 SS in Lugo, Upton, and A Gonzalez.. maybe we can trade a few prospects for Lugo
Guest JimH
My opinion, the only two teams who "might" have a need at 2b are the Royals and the Cardinals. Every other team looks pretty well set. Cardinals have Grud and the backup guy Hector Luna, so maybe they'd want to take a chance. Royals have Gotay and Graffanino. Someone in another thread made an astute point, they need to clear room on the 40 man so this may get resolved sooner than later. I doubt the Sox just give him away though. If the market is bad and they can't get what they want, they might just keep him for the time being and see how spring goes. Who knows, this is way too much speculation anyways. southsider2k5
QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 26, 2005 -> 10:49 AM) Why not keep Willie and sign Jeff Nelson to a much cheaper, minor-league deal. I'd rather have him that Urbina anyways. Why would Jeff Nelson want to come here on a minor league deal? Our pen is stuff with quality righties, so his chances of making the team are small right now. He wants a chance, he wouldn't get one here.

AddisonStSox
Although Harris doesn't seem like a LaRussa guy, I could easily invison a deal with the Redbirds. I'm not familiar with their farm system, but I could see a deal surrounding a hot pitching prospect or maybe a prospect and fan-favorite Bo Hart. Harris has a ton of trade value, and I'm being serious here. Although I am quite possibly Harris' biggest critic, I have to admit their would be a lot of teams (mostly NL) that would kill for a rangey, speedy second baseman. Would anyone else be satisfied with a top-notch pitching prospect or a proven utility infielder on a current MLB roster? I'd take either. AddisonStSox
I'm gonna throw another out there. How about the Crybabies from the Northside? I just looked at their depth-chart and its rather grim at 2b. Todd Walker is the starter, followed by a prospect named Lewis. To me, it looks like they are one injury away from disaster at that position. Would Kenny be willing to work with Hendry? What could Harris bring in from the Northside.... Thoughts? Jabroni
Willie for Farns?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Farnsworth is garbage. He's a headcase and all he does is drink all night and pitch with a hangover.

He's a headcase and all he does is drink all night and pitch with a hangover. I'd take on that drunken headcase anyday of the week and twice on Sundays. He's a change of scenary guy. Hell, he might even have his coming out party this year. Book it.

I'd trade Willie for Farns in a heartbeat, I've always felt once he got out of Wrigley, he'd be disgusting.

"Why are you looking at me?" By the way, how is Farnsworth moving from Wrigley to the Cell's even bigger launching pad going to help Farnsworth? I don't think Willie would be enough to net Farnsworth, especially when the Cubs' bullpen is already in shamble as it is.

He has excellent control with his 100 mph fastball. It's when he tries to throw his off-speed crap that he gets in trouble.
JUGGERNAUT
We've been pitching the Farnsy for Harris deal in several threads. I'd do it in a heartbeat as well. I fault Baker for some of the crap they get a way with there. Ozzie wouldn't stand for most of that. I think a change of pitching & head coach could wake Farnsy up. He's definitely an upgrade over Adkins. As for the Cub they don't have much speed that I'm aware of. Patterson & Barrett is all that comes to mind. Harris would be a nice tool for them off the bench. Jabroni
Whenever I see Farnsworth I think of Nuke LaLoosh from Bull Durham -- million dollar arm and a 10 cent head.

I don't think Willie would be enough to net Farnsworth. I think you're underestimating Harris' trade value. Yes, that's right. I'm saying it. Especially if you look at that depth chart. Harris has shown flashes of life at the major leauge level and I'm sure there are teams (5-10+) that would love to give him a shot. His window of opportunity is rapidly closing on the Southside, but not in the MLB.
