Yuengling, I already said Stag, Walters, Sterling, I have a Grain Belt delivery shirt in my closet, don't tell me about Grain Belt I toured the brewery 3 times.

Cold Spring, Hudepohl, Pickett's, Rolling Rock in the squatty 7 oz. cans.

All except Old Timers were way out of my price range back in the day!

Old Style was a dog beer, they used to sell that crap on the south side for 5.99 a case, and that when it wasn't on sale.

You are missing out on a very good cheap beer of today ... LaCrosse Lager ... yes I know you haven't tried it and therefore it is inconceivable to you. Unbelievable.

They used to sell Hamms at the ballpark in the 60's and then it was Falstaff in the 70's, I have a great Falstaff Channel 44 ad hanging in my basement, nothing but the finest.

Pearl ... San Antonio. Toured that brewery too, right before they closed. Great beer, that stuff was excellent, it was my refrigerator beer in California.

That and Pabst Genuine Draft. And Lucky Lager.

1980's at the ballpark was Old Style, before the Cub yuppies made it a big deal. Old Style was basically what drove Schlitz out of Chicago, after Schiltz tinkered with the recipe and screwed it all up.

Drewerys = squatty brown bottles.

You are moving off of cheap beer into mainstream or even premium stuff. Kingsbury has been non alchoholic for 20+ years and Ballantine Ale was a well respected east coast brand which was later taken over by Falstaff in the late 80's. Ask a Red Sox fan about Ballantine's, they love that stuff if it's still being made.

Rhiengold was a refrigerator beer from the east coast, much like Schmidts in Cleveland and Philly.

Shiner is a cult beer, much like Anchor Steam albeit a little cheaper. They used to make a "regular" Shiner before the brewery was remodeled (toured it 2 years ago) and now it's called Shiner Blonde Ale. Not the same. Shiner Bock is a personal favorite, it's available in Phoenix and Tucson.

Canadian Ace was available all the way until the early 90's, used to be brewed in the shadow of the ballpark, 39th and Emerald. I have a picture of the brewery which was next to Schaller's hanging behind the bar.

All that s*** they made in Wisconsin ... Wisconsin Club, Potosi ... that was the crap we used to find in DeKalb. Old Milwaukee and Olympia were the big ones, I was always a PBR type.

People out our way are afraid of cheap beer, their loss.

You guys are bringing back memories of my old beer can collection.  lol

Only ones I can think of that I did not see you list are Phieffer (sp?) and Little Kings.  Did anyone mention Carling's Black Label?

Little Kings Cream Ale. Love it. Still being made but only sporadically distributed in the Chicago area. Cannot get it on draft here.

Pennsylvania had all kinds of cheap beer ... Stoney's, Straub among others. Ohio was another state with lots of breweries and cheap beer.

Whenever we traveled with the family, my dad always asked for the local beer, on draft if possible. I still do that to this day. Local beer can be just as interesting as local cooking. There is no beer that tastes quite like Dixie, I love that stuff. Cajun cooking, same thing.

Beer and baseball, what a marriage.

I will bet I will have quickman singing the praises of LaCrosse Lager by the end of the 2005 season. I will give it to him in a blind taste test, otherwise he will say "this sucks" ... and then run out and buy a case. :P :drink

I think that Frank Thomas needs to retire a White Sox. End of story. No other teams!

it took how many posts to get back to the point of the thread...LOL :lolhitting

Find a way to keep both....Thomas won't demand a lot if the "injury" situation were to occur....but even if it doesn't....he still will deserve any amount of money he gets...(with in reason)...same for Konerko. Both of them are the types of players that deserve 7-11 million a year...

And lets not bring Fisk into this.  Him and Riensdorf hated each other.  That is a whole other ball of wax.

Actually it was Carlton and Schu that hated eachother.. Carlton's hatred of Jerry didn't come until the incident in Cleveland.

Carry on..

HURT: 1309ab, 164r, 343h, 80db, 88hr, 246rbi, 277wh, 287k, 387O, 526S

Kone: 1577ab, 130r, 433h, 71db, 86hr, 286rbi, 175wh, 229k, 344O, 483S

It's no F'g contest. Despite 268 more ab's (1/2 a season) Frank leads him in HR's, DB's, & R's. Take a look at the w+hbp difference. The only dropoff in Frank's game from his glory years in the 90's are the K's. That's what's led to his avg consistently dropping below 300.

Frank: 3.816 ab/h

Kone: 3.642 ab/h

Not a big deal.

Where you see the biggest separation is the splits along type of pitcher:

Grounball, Flyball types

Koney: vs GB: 286ab, 327o, 388s; vs FB: 393ab, 340o, 529s; vs AVG: 898ab, 351o, 493s

Frank: vs GB: 258ab, 366o, 395s; vs FB: 296 ab, 396o, 588s; vs AVG: 755ab, 391o, 547s

Finesse, Power types

Koney: vs FI: 239ab, 346o, 473s; vs PW:901ab, 339o, 473s;vs AVG: 437ab, 353o, 510s

Frank: vs FI: 217ab, 394o, 604s; vs PW:786ab, 378o, 515s;vs AVG: 306ab, 407o, 500s

Frank beats him in every split especially the ones which are most prevalent: avg GB/FB Power.
