SouthSideScraper
I'm not flat wrong. I was talking about the trend that started in 2001. I was using 2000 as a point of reference. How many times do I need to post his numbers. This is not a one time occurance if he has had two seperate injuries that led to him ending a season prematurely and causing him to have an off year the following season. If it takes the rest of one year or most of the following year for him to heal, then we're not going to see the Frank we know and love until either sometime in September, or next season. He doesn't bounce back. Look....I have nothing against Frank Thomas. Nothing, I'm just trying to justify spending the kind of money he's going to want if he has a ad year this year. Both season ending injuries led to off years. If 2005 follows this trend, do the Sox really want to spend the money on him or do they want to look at what else they can get? There are some true blue Frank Thomas fans on this thread. Jeeze. And lets not bring Fisk into this. Him and Riensdorf hated each other. That is a whole other ball of wax. I didn't say that you were wrong. I said your statement was innaccurate. I'll modify that and say it was misleading. You said it has happened 3 time. No it hasn't. It has happened once. It may be happening again, but we don't know that yet. What you implied in your post was that once he goes down was that he won't be back to 100% until the season after his return. That has only happened one time, not three.
beck72
While Frank's avg may not hit .300, his high OBP and SLG numbers justify his salary. Looking at this yrs FA's , the money guys like Beltre, Glaus, Sexton and Drew got [guys who have been injured or inconsistent in the past], Frank is worth what he'll make. Only David Ortiz can come close to Frank's numbers. Now, if Frank is hobbled all yr, and the foot doesn't show signs of healing and may just get worse, that's a different story. Then maybe buy him out and resign him to a lesser contract. But if his foot heals and its back to normal, Frank should earn his money
quickman
This is a silly subject until the end of the season. Lots can change. I know its slow this time of year, but lets wait to see how the season plays itself out. Thomas could be injured all year and it will be a moot point. konerko could revert back to 230 and 22 HR's. They both could get hurt or they both could excel. Payroll is higher this year than last, it will probably go up marginally next year as well. If we win the damn division we will have money. We hav enot even played a game this year and we are worried about next year. As we found out the last two years, we are extremely active in the offseason. Lots can happen. Don't let Phil Rogers impress you. He sits in a chair and speculates just like we do. Difference is he gets paid for it.
elrockinMT
Why do we think we can't or shouldn't keep both Konerko and Thomas? I don't think this is or will be an issue of money. Frank is still a dangerous hitter, one of the best in the game, and so is Konerko. I think this discussion is one we shouldn't even be concerned about. If everything on this team becomes an issue of money we won't have any star players at all because the reasoning would be we can't pay anyone more than major league minimum. Rex Hudler
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 30, 2005 -> 05:14 AM) If anything they will renegotiate with him, not by him out. They would not do that to thomas after all these years. Well they may, i just highly doubt it. Who are you kidding? KW has hoped to get rid of Frank for the last several years, beginning with the new contract. The Sox have hoped Frank would gamble and not exercise his option so they could cut him loose. If Frank comes back and has a great year, then they might find a way to keep him. If not, I'd be willing to bet they buy him out. Now they may try to resign him to a lesser deal or more incentive-laden deal, if they do so, but I think unless FT bounces back big, you may have seen the last of Frank in a Sox uniform unless he plays at a serious discount. Just my opinion........

Guest JimH
qwerty, I think quickman asked this, who is that in the avatar, is that you? This one is on a par with the basketball player picking his nose, not good. I vote that all avatars should be of hot chicks, unless you're an older guy like quickman, in which case it should be a picture of cheap beer like Huber or Hamm's or Falstaff. winninguglyin83
only way Frank will be back in 2006 is if he agrees to a major pay cut. he's coming off an injury. He can't play the field. And he refuses to take calls or talk to the GM. Not a receipe to get an invite back to town.
