I just made a bet...

With a cub fan for 200 bills (he threw the amount out there)...he said the Cubs would win more games this year than the Sox. Ya think I should be countin' my chickens before they're hatched? Personally...I jumped all over that bet...and I usually don't bet on my teams (I think it's the kiss of death).

based on how it seems we're always optimistic for the next season and feel that we will win the division, i wouldnt take the bet, but thats just me. because it seems every year somethin goes wrong, and we do terribly.

then again, the more i think about it, the more i think that i would take the bet....

Although I wouldn't bet $200 on it, I think its a decent bet for us to win more games.

For one, we play in a much easier division.

Secondly, I believe that our hitting and pitching are more balanced than theirs. I'll give them the starters, but for an entire staff, top to bottom, I'll take ours. Same thing for offense, especially if their plan for replacing Sosa and Alou's offense is Jerry Hairston and Jeromy Burnitz.

Of course, things can change before opening day. At the moment though, I like your chances at a profit here. Buy us a round at the end of the season? :cheers

I hope I'm wrong, but get ready to pay up

I'd take that bet. The Slubs lost Alou, Sosa, Clement, Grudzalanek.. while failing to upgrade their terrible bullpen. They've still got one of the better pitching staffs in the game, but can Wood and Prior stay healthy? Will Maddux hold up? Will Rusch prove last year wasn't a fluke? Can Dubois and Hollandsworth atleast come close to the same type of production as Sosa and Alou? All are legitimate questions.

I realize we have questions as well. Can Pods regain his 2003 form? How will Iguchi do? Will big Frank come back strong? Can Dye and Hernandez stay healthy? It's gonna be a very interesting season for both teams.

You're going to have 200 more dollars to play around with come october.

lol@rowand, Remember how everybody in here had the Slubs in the series and we were the only two that said they would eventually choke? I believe everybody said we needed to take off our white sox colored glasses and get out of denial. :D

The NL Central is the division of mediocrity this year, everyone lost huge offense (except Milwaukee).  The Cubs have the pitching to feast on a lot of ho-hum teams.  I wouldn't have taken that bet, at least not at that much money.

If you are calling Tony Womack and Mike Matheny, "huge offense", you're nuts. Matheny was a DP machine and while Womack played over his head last season, he was no difference maker. They replaced him with Grudz who can still play.

Their line up if flat out nasty with Grudz, Walker, Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds, Sanders. Losing Renteria sucks and Eck is totally a different type of player, he should make up some offense. Rookie at C in Molina.

Houston lost Beltran, but look at that rotation. Clemens, healthy Pettite, Oswalt, Backe.

That's a great bet and I'll be looking to make some just like it. The Sox will win 90-95 games - maybe more. The flubs probably won't win 90.

:o Wow man Give me some of that Kool-Aid :rolly

I have a running bet with a friend of mine for $10. we are even, so far. But, I'd take that bet. The Cubs have off and on field issues that I don't think they will be able to get over. it's going to be REAL close. i'm guessing they will be very close to 90 wins. Good luck, Wanne.
