LosMediasBlancas
Whether or not it's justified, Maggs is pissed at the team, not the fan base. I'm neutral, then again it takes a lot for me to boo anyone on the filed.
Texsox
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) Mainly because Maggs has done nothing to dispute it. Besides worked out for the Tigers and passed a physical? Are you disputing that Kenny ever said Maggs knee wasn't ok? And where did Maggs get the name of the surgeon? Oh yes, a Doctor who was being paid by the Sox.

If his knee is so healthy, why did he not show up for workouts for various teams that were interested in him back in December? Heard that reported on ESPN at the time. Seems to me that if he was in tip-top shape, which he claims to be, he would have shown up eager to show his stuff. But that's just me. Because Kenny's quote was "We don't know how Maggs knee is." Very different from "he knee is not fine", IMO. And Maggs told that doctor to keep that information from the Sox. Not to tell them. To deceive them. To lie.

He wasn't ready to work out in December. That doesn't mean he won't be ready to go in April. Time will tell. I don't understand the hatred. If you think the guy is washed up, he did all Sox fans a favor turning down the contract.

Guest JimH
This guy is gone and he hired a top gun agent to get him the best deal possible. Maggs looked out for #1 and so did the White Sox. It's the American way. It's unfortunate that sometimes looking out for #1 means people do things that other people take exception to. Ordonez is happy with his new contract, the White Sox are happy with their revamped team. I'm guessing the Sox are equally as happy they don't have to commit all that payroll to one guy. I don't know, sounds like a win-win to me. When a guy leaves town, lots of times there are subtle pot shots that hit the press. This is not something I take personally. He was a good player while he was here but the team didn't win much. Not his fault but he was a key cog. This is pro sports, people come and go. I'm more excited about looking forward, I like the way the team looks.

Why is it the Sox get the worse humans to play for them? I'll bet Maggs could have played in September, when he was under contract, he just wanted to sit on his ass and collect his money. No wonder he kept that away from the team. Why didn't the Sox void his contract and stop payments if he was withholding information he was legally obligated to provide? I would think all that would be spelled out in his contract. I forgot, the Sox are perfect and always do the very best for every player. Like that early retirement gift for Fisk. I wonder who the next ass will be on the team? Who is a free agent in 2006? You can bet that player is going to be a greedy bastard as well. LMAO. Let's all drink the Sox are a charity koolaid. I guess Maggs took a play from Frank's playbook about not returning team phone calls. IIRC Frank didn't bother to return Ozzie's phone calls. So I guess Frank has no class also? Frank's a Hall Of Famer. Please don't mention Magglio's name in the same sentence as his again. And who cares about what may or may not have happened a year ago? Frank and Ozzie had 0 problems with each other last season (despite the media's best attempt to create friction), and the same will be true in 2005. The Critic
I think we're arguing more about this than they are. My opinion remains - I'm sorry to see Magglio leave, sad it had to be this way, but excited about the 2005 team with the moves that were made. Maggs took a gamble turning down the Sox' offer, for whatever reason he did ( deferred money or whatever ), and luckily for him another team is interested in taking a chance on him and his knee, albeit a hedged bet by the Tigers. I'm not going to boo him if I go to a Sox/Tigers game, but I'm not going to cheer him either. I'm going to treat him with the same polite detachment I have for most opposing players. I don't hate him, he's just not on my team anymore. I don't care who's "right", both sides made choices and this is how it turned out. Texsox
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) Actually he didn't call Kenny back.. silly facts. Fans support Thomas in front office dispute BY TEDDY GREENSTEIN Chicago Tribune (KRT) - Something odd transpired over the weekend at SoxFest: Frank Thomas became a sympathetic figure to White Sox fans. A multimillionaire who stands 6 feet 5 inches and weighs 275 pounds, Thomas suddenly has common folk watching his back. Chalk it up to a turbulent off-season in which Thomas, fresh off a 42-homer campaign, took body blows from new manager Ozzie Guillen and then had his manners scrutinized by general manager Ken Williams, who disclosed that Thomas had not been returning his phone calls. Although Thomas blew off SoxFest this year, he was very much on the minds of some fans who showed up. During Friday's question-and-answer session with members of the front office, a woman took the microphone and began lecturing Williams. Although the woman acknowledged she'd be in big trouble if she didn't return calls from her boss, she said: "It's not appropriate to broadcast your issues with Frank Thomas. That's none of our business, and it puts him in a bad light." Williams responded that he was simply trying to be straight with the media. "When I look at the presidential candidates," he said, "I look for honesty, someone who will give it to me straight." An admirable stance, to be sure. But then again, Williams didn't have to tell us about Thomas' voice-mail issues. The question came up on Jan. 23 after Shingo Takatsu's introductory press conference. That's when Williams was asked if he had been in contact with Thomas. Williams simply could have said, "No, I'll see him in a few weeks at spring training." Instead Williams mentioned the phone calls, adding, "I think it's on Frank at this point to reach out to us because we've made the overtures." Guillen, too, tried to contact Thomas repeatedly. Thomas didn't get back to him either. Perhaps it had something to do with what Guillen said after he was named manager on Nov. 3: "I have no problem with Frank as long as he plays the game right. When he does stuff on the field to disrespect the team, he's not respecting himself. If he hits a fly ball and doesn't run the bases, Frank won't get another at-bat. ... I'm not talking about just Frank. I'm talking about everyone." Silly aren't they. Actually it was Guillen and Kenny. But then research isn't really necessary. Care to call Frank an ass? Care to call Frank an ass? I was the woman, so I was there, and Ozzie never commented one bit during the time I was "scolding" Kenny, so I was not aware of his comments made after the fact. And I don't feel the need to call anyone an ass for not returning calls.. it's none of my business... and I question your motivation in making that the issue when I have clearly stated over and over again that it's because he lied that I don't have any respect for him any longer. You don't agree with me.. so be it. Interesting behavior here..
