Don't know if this has been posted or not, basically it is Gammons talking about how the Tigers had to sign Maggs and how the Twins and Indians are the frontrunners this year

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1987105

It should be a rule on this site that mention of the senile Peter Gammons results in an automatic 30 day suspension.

Gammons is 100% absolutely clueless.

We seem to have the least holes in the division, in my opinion, yet the Indians and Tigers will supposedly do better than us?? What gives?

I don't think it's as negative as you think. He mentions KC as being the only team not likely to contend & he ends with a Williams quote emphasizing pitching. He even indicates that Contreras will likely be helped by Hernandez.

He's not happy with the Lee move but seems to like the overall rotation & pen strength. He left out Iggy altogether :(

Honestly guys, just shrug these articles off. I don't even bother reading this stuff anymore, most experts aren't going to be high on the White Sox.....that's just the way it is. I just found it funny that Gammons found a way to mentioned the Red Sox in that article.

He could be writing an article about anything and manage to get the Red Sox in there.

Guys, where did all the pub we got in the past years get us? absolutely f***in nowhere.  I like being the underdogs.

Yup Was the same way in 2000. Underdogs Rule! :headbang

-Twins stellar organization, abundance of young talent.

-Tigers proximity to contention; contingent on health of Bonderman/bullpen

-Indians rebuilt farm system, progression of rookies, added depth in rotation/IF.

-Royals (rather improbable) dreams.

I may be complaining about nothing, but I found Gammon's assessment of our team to be rather stale. He simply states our additions without adding much analysis; good or bad. Probably cut and pasted White Sox offseason information from the same "source" responsible for Rob Neyer's piece.

That's because he doesn't know s*** about the White Sox. Much like Pedro Gomez. He used to write for the AZ Republic out here and some of his crap he wrote it was like he just scanned the net and took a few notes. There was a few times I wrote him and called him on it...especially a couple of years ago when before the season started, on his preseason power poll he had the Sox about 2 or 3 slots from the bottom. I basically just accused him of hearsay and crap research and that he really didn't know crap about a majority of the teams he was accessing.

As for Gammons...he's just pullin stuff outta his ass to fill up space. The day he writes something I find relevant...what did Garth say..."when monkeys fly outta my ass...".

I would rather see the Sox kicking everyones ass on the field than in the papers... screw what everyone has to say. Once the Sox start winning they will all be saying "Oh I knew they would be good" Blah Blah Blah...

In all fairness to Gammons and all the other talking heads with various networks, radio stations, and newspapers, they HAVE to talk about something. Unfortunately, I think many just talk out of their ass to either create controversy, or just to amuse themselves with ridiculous predictions and/or absurd observations.

No games were ever won or lost through words or through print, so yes, all of this back and forth stuff is rather meaningless. Just take everything you hear or read from now until April with a grain of salt, and have fun with it.

Afterall, it's only baseball. ;)

I think Gammons is like Will Ferrel in Anchorman. The interns like to f*** with him and put anything in front of him cuz they know he'll read it.

It would be fun to take Gammons and a few other writer's predictions and keep detailed stats of how often they are correct. Starting from the end of the season so we can laugh at all the signings and trades that never happen.

All of the experts whose job it is to follow baseball are wrong. Fans who are totally unbiased, like those here, are correct. We're not drinking whatever koolaid the teams are serving, not like all the experts.

Pods will rebound to 2003 levels! Dye will stop striking out! Iguchi will do even better than he did in Japan! No question marks on this team. Suddenly we're the genius of the Central Division. Print the playoff tickets now.

I'm as happy with the changes as the next person, but I can understand why people are not picking this team. It was blown apart and rebuilt. We can hope the pitching holds up. We can hope guys rebound and return to past glory.

Agreed, we were talked about all the time as someone who could take the Division and how many titles?????

I wouldn't call that 'pub'. In 2000, we were a surprise and most 'experts' have called us a fluke every year after that.

I'm keeping a wait and see attitude. This year could potentially be a disaster. There is tons of pressure on Pods, if he can't get it done, it'll get ugly quickly. No one is a sure thing, but this team has a lot of potential question marks.
