sec159row2
APRIL...APRIL...APRIL... My key to the season is april. I don't like to hear players say it is early.. I look at the 2000 season when the sox stormed thru april and that momentum got them to October. KC a couple of years ago had a bust-out beginning of the season and it kept them in contention the whole year.. granted they didn't make the playoffs... I would have preferred the 2000 team do more in the playoffs, but right now I'd like to get back to the playoffs... maybe small ball will fair better than home run ball come October... the sox need to take advantage of the teams that are slow starters and they will have solid ground to stand on in October.... what are your key/keys ???? southsider2k5
For me it is health. This team was dead last year when Frank and Maggs got hurt. This year we have two guys who have had serious injury problems in Dye and El Duque, plus we are still waiting for Frank to heal. If this team stays healthy, it can win. If not, forget it. WilliamTell
I think April and health are both important. If we get a good April, that momentum will continue aslong as we have health.
LosMediasBlancas
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) For me it is health. If this team stays healthy, it can win. If not, forget it. Health is a great point. I'm not exactly jumping up and down about our chances even if everyone stays healthy and if people get hurt, it's gonna get ugly fast. I don't see a lot of depth on the squad, except maybe the pen. AnthraxFan93
My 1st key is simple, Finish stronger than we start.. every year the Twins have won the Div we fad around late July early August. 2nd Key, win Series, that should be their goal, I have always said Win Series and you be in the Series. 3rd key Health, IMO there are about 5 guys who need to stay healthy for us to have a chance otherwise we are toast Edited February 23, 2005 by AnthraxFan93
Texsox
*My* key is to keep my expectations low and lower. Fortunatly the national media is helping with that. Top Ten Least Improved Teams, Power Rankings, you name it. If I can convince myself we are a 6th place team in a 5 team division, it will be a great season. The key to the teams success will be Pitching. The organization is still razor thin with proven starting pitching. I like the staff, if they stay healthy, life could be good, Average. Speed is nothing if the player is sprinting to the bench after grounding out. We need men on base and I didn't see Kenny bringing in a .325 hitter. Team batting average needs to improve with power down. Something that hasn't been talked about. A HR is a RBI, a single and a stolen base is nothing without another hit. Health. Major League starting line-ups are not backed up with great talent. Expansion and salaries have conspired to end the days of a team coming at you with 25 great players. AngelasDaddy0427
IMO the key to this season is Ozzie being able to learn from the mistakes last year. For example I don't want to see a guy like AROW buried in the 7th hole when he's red hot while a guy like Valentin who is barely treading the mendoza line and stiking out on everything is put in the cleanup spot. Ozzie needs to prove that he can lead this team now that he has "his" kind of team.
Texsox
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) IMO the key to this season is Ozzie being able to learn from the mistakes last year. While I think you can tinker with a lineup too much, a la Manuel in 2003, Oz should be vastly improved over 2004.
Yossarian
I third that. Ozzie asked for it, he got it. Now he needs to push all the right buttons. I also agree with Tex on the starting rotation. Contreras, El Duque and Garland are all big question marks in my estimation. If two of them pan out, we'll be right there. If all three do, then it could be a truly magical year.
Y2HH
As many questionmarks we have on this team, the Twins has just as many, so I'm not worried about it, I just want to see a team go out and give it their all, EVERY day, not take days off because they're lazy. If they give me that, I'll be happy. -y2
AddisonStSox
Jose Contreras. For 4 months now, I've said "as Jose Contreras goes, so go the White Sox in 2005." I stick by that statement.
Chisoxmatt
El Duque, Contreras, Dye, and Everett.
Y2HH
The real "key" to this, and any season is everyone coming together and playing as a team...coming through in the clutch, and stepping up when necessary. Not one or two guys. Or perhaps I'm just insane like that. -y2

June was the key month in the 2000 season. If you take away 2000's April and June, you have a mediocre team.

The Beast
Getting those third outs and successfully producing those double plays to get out of those innings where you go get a beer or two to down it.

When Carlos whacked that salami to left was the best hr shot i've seen at the cell. I called it too, it was tagged and bagged, you could put that s*** on the board. I laughed at the cub fans who sat behind me, because it was so funny of seeing them STUNNED and drunk off their asses.
