DBAHO
If Valdez can play 3B I'm inclined to give him the job. But if Ozuna can show that he is at least capable of handling the utility spot and keeping his head above water, than it's probably better if Valdez gets regular AB's down at Charlotte. I like the idea of having Valdez getting ready down in Charlotte in case something happens. And to quote other posts in other topics as well, I really like the idea of Adkins and Diaz and Munoz getting regular starts down in Charlotte too. Now, if they would only have Cotts do that too. santo=dorf
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) On paper yes he did, but on paper doesn't bring you banners. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So you're satisfied with the players KW got this offseason, ye if they don't perform, it's not the manager's or player's fault? I'd be willing to bet anything if Dye struggles you'll be the first to say "nice job KW," and if he goes on the to hit 30 HR's and 115 RBI's, you'd be saying KW got lucky, or how Ozzie deserves credit for motivating him. KW puts the players on the field, and amazingly, you have apporved the job he did this offseason. What more do you want KW to do? It's time for Ozzie to manage this team like a major-league manager, and it's time for the players to step up and win.
CWSGuy406
If neither Ozuna nor Valdez can play 3B, wouldn't it be better to have Burke up with the club, rather than Davis? I mean -- Davis isn't really helping the team by being a backup. He can't hit lefties at all (.229 over the last three years), and he isn't that great enough defensively to where we'd need him off the bench late in a game. Burke, on the other hand, could definitely hit better than .230 vs lefties (which is pretty damn big considering our starting catcher isn't great vs. lefties), would give us some versaitilty at 3B, C, and the corner OF spots too. I dunno, maybe I'm overexagerating it, but I don't see the need of Davis being on our roster. He really doesn't add anything to the club -- rather, I think Burke would add more than anything Davis would bring...

However there is no way Davis makes it through waviers and we can't afford to just let him walk away for nothing. It's more a case of just not having enough depth to be able to afford to let him go. Doesn't Chris Widger provide that depth now? Just seems like the only thing keeping Davis here is that 1 million dollar price tag.

Besides if god forbid A.J. went down I would feel a heck of alot more comfortable with Davis out there then Widger. Besides hasn't Widger not even played in the last 2 years? Oh I totally agree about Davis talent. I think Widger was only out of baseball last year. I like Davis, but I also agree that Burke brings more to the table as far as versatility. If Davis were to go and AJ got hurt, we would still have Burke and then Widger, I could accept that, I think.

Widger for minor league contract> ben davis million dollar contract. We gonna still be talking about davis's talent when he is 32 and retired ( he should by the because he blows). I'm pretty sure Ozuna has played 3B before but I don't think Valdez has. I think last yr was also the first time he played 2b too. IMO, Valdez should be in AAA as the long term fill in for Uribe in case Juan gets hurt. For Kw to come out and say the guy the UTL guy is now in camp, when Valdez and Willie haven't played a game at any new positions, makes it look like Ozuna has shown the Sox something
