FlaCWS
There was a special edition of Baseball Tonight earlier. The Sox got dissed three different times, although each was subtle: 1. They talked about the Cubs chances this year and someone said, and I quote: "The Cubs are the only curse in town these days" referring, of course to the Red Sox winning the World Series. I understand White Sox fans don't like to say our team is "cursed" but still, how could a team without a WS since 1917 be ignored in that discussion? 2. They did a piece on Sosa and Karl Ravetch said that Chicago fans would get to see Sammy when makes a trip to Chicago this year. He said it won't be at Wrigley though, it'll be at, and I quote: "(long pause)... US.... US... Cellular... Field.... that's what they call the place the White Sox play these days, right?" Good lord. 3. In their discussion of the AL Central, Gammons said Minnesota had the best offseason. Steve Phillips disagreed, he said Detroit did better. Then someone else chimed in that Cleveland could be better than all of them. No mention of the Royals - and deservedly so... but none of the White Sox either. Wow. SoxFan1
We'll just have to show them on the field. I dont give a f*** about BBTN anymore. They are dumbasses. The only one who ever had some sence was John fricking Kruk.
WilliamTell
Screw them. They'll be our biggest ass-kissers if we start off strong. That's the way they were with the Royals two years ago, and now they treat them like usual.
Rowand44
Meh, we should be used to this now everyone, they'll probably be more sox bashing to come before the season starts. I honestly could careless what the publications or the so called experts have to say about the team, the sox don't need to be talked up, just win, that's all that matters. Rowand44
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) Can I just ask one thing for this season? Can we please not have daily threads on BBTN and how they don't have a clue??? ESPN, and especially Baseball Tonight, have always been bandwagon jumpers, and for good reason. There a national TV show, so there telling people who the hot/cold teams are at the time. The Sox haven't made any "sexy" moves this off season(the big FA,big trade) but added a bunch of smaller pieces to the puzzle. BBTN is not for a lot of people on this board, because 90% of us are die hard baseball fans, and that is NOT what BBTN caters to at all. It caters to the casual fan. Take it for what it's worth. And don't worry, they will hop on the bandwagon come July..... Very good post and very true.
Melissa1334
Minnesota had the best offseason? wow! they signed redmond..a backup catcher.....castro...a backup IF...they lost guzman and koskie...the only good move was re-signig radke and santana. :banghead but like everyone from the sox have said..its better to be the underdog (does anyone know when the next bbtn show is airing?) Minnesota.. :fyou

I saw baseball tonight and 1.) who cares about the stupid curse stuff...nobody talks abotu any white sox curse, so i agree with BBTN. 2.) Ravech's remark was in reference to the sox changing teh stadiums name, and if anything more of a jab at how all of baseball has changed traditional names in favor of corporations 3.) teh fact of the matter is that the tigers added a superstar OFer, and a closer who has 200+ saves, while the white sox traded away a .300 30 guy for a guy who hit .244, a move that right or wrong drew many question marks from teh national media. I will say taht gammons was a moron, saying the twins, but he has always had some sort of fetish for billy bean and terry ryan. either way, they were not snubbing the sox, just stating their opinions, lay off the guys and jsut be happy they are talkin about baseball and not the NBA

DonkeyKongerko
I'm with daa84 on this one for points 1 and 2 at least. You can't have your cake and eat it too. The Sox AREN'T cursed and therefore SHOULDN'T be mentioned in any discussion of said topic. Second, do you actually like the name of our field? Would you have thought Ravech was disrespecting Oakland if he made fun of Network Associates/McAfee Coliseum or San Diego and PetCo Park? I actually think our stadium now has the worst name in baseball along with Minute Maid Park. It doesn't roll of the tongue and it sounds just so blatantly corporate. AddisonStSox
There are far too many new additions this season for the national people to gage any type of success for the White Sox. I can't blame them. I'm developing some serious pre-season jitters over our roster.

This has been said about the Twins for a while, they're lucky or they just won't be good this year but every damn year they're back. Also Cleveland finishes under .500, guaranteed. winninguglyin83
If the Sox play well, they'll get love. They weren't getting much love in 2000. Media publicity doesn't win any games. And, remember this: If Maggs starts out hot and the Tigers win, we're going to get bashed on a daily basis. That's the way it works.
whitesoxin'
Even though the Cubs complain about having a curse, the White Sox would more likely have a curse if there were such things. We threw the World Series! That had to piss off the baseball gods a lot more than not letting a goat into the stadium or having some fan interfere with one foul ball. Nokona
Proof that the only thing BBTN is good for is highlights: Gammons said that the biggest thing this offseason was not steroids or the Yankees but get this one... witesoxfan
First off, who the hell cares what ESPN says? As has been pointed out, they made no sexy moves...they brought in a guy who hit .265 last year with a sub .800 OPS to play RF, they brought in a leadoff hitter who had an OBP of .314 last year, they brought in 2Bman who has never played in America, brought in a reliever who had an ERA in the 4's last year, brought in a SP who has started 30 games in a season one time in his career(IIRC)...the only move they made that is pretty much guaranteed to be good for the Sox is the AJP deal, and he isn't guaranteed to have an OBP above .320(which, nonetheless, is better then we have been getting, but the point still holds true). We have guys coming off career years in Uribe and Rowand, a guy in Konerko who put up .270 .890 numbers after putting up .230 .700 numbers 2 years ago, a starter in Contreras who had an ERA of 5.30 with us, a starter in Garland who put up an ERA in the 4.80 range, a junkballer for a closer in Shingo, a DH who can't play the field at all in Thomas who is injury prone, a 3B in Crede who didn't hit .240 last year, a reliever in Cotts who put up an ERA near 6 last year, a $4 mill bench player in Everett...have I touched on enough subjects, or should I continue to reach? Crazily enough, this s***'s gonna work. Secondly...the Twins could very well be better offensively next year then they were last year, even after losing Mr. 310 OBP and Koskie. Morneau is probably a .270 30 .900 type player, Mauer is probably a .300 20 .850 type player, Cuddyer will probably be able to put up decent numbers, they lost no one in the pen(so they will still have Romero-Rincon-Nathan in the 7th, 8th, and 9th, along with Balfour and Crain in the pen too), they lost no one in the rotation(though Mulholland is not guaranteed to make the team)...they will be coming at 100% again this season, so the head to head games will be pretty big with Minnesota. I actually think our stadium now has the worst name in baseball along with Minute Maid Park. It doesn't roll of the tongue and it sounds just so blatantly corporate. US Cellular Field certainly has better flow AND sounds less corporate than Network Associates/McAfee Coliseum. They may as well have named that park Corporate Corporation Field, Incorporated - couldn't sound much worse than NetAssMac Coliseum. And I NEVER anyone use that cheap "is that what they call it now?" wisecrack about any other park that changed its name. I didn't even hear it when Enron collapsed and that park became Minute Maid. They just started with the juice box remarks, but none of the "whatever it's called these days" crap that they throw at USCF. It's a minor point, for sure, but I think it bears mentioning. I don't mind the park's name at all - personally, I say the full name or USCF, but a lot of people use The Cell, which would be a cool enough nickname if those jackasses hadn't run on the field and given "The Cell" a bad connotation.
