hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) And Hammerhead, They say they are more talented then 50. It would be like saying, Im better than Billy Koch. Then I respond with: Why arent you in the minors even? And you respond with: Well they would laugh at me if I showed up at a training camp, but I swear Im really really good, I just wont prove it, and will sit behind my computer screen claiming that Im god. If your gonna argue atleast have the decency to make applicable points. Otherwise I can make straw man arguments to. SB You might want to review this thread, because I responded to the garbage that YOU typed before anyone ever said that they were a better writer or rapper than 50 Cent. In fact, 3E8 said 50% of the posters on here could write better lyrics than 50 Cent after you made that initial post. LCR made use of the good old hyperbole, but he never actually said that he was better than 50 cent at anything. You came with the same tired argument that I've heard thousands of times throughout my life. You can't criticize Will Perdue because you ain't never played in the NBA! 50 Cent sucks? Wow, well, how many records have you sold lately???? :headshake
Soxbadger
Lowercase, 50 has made exactly 1 album, some of it is just to sell records, some of it is high quality. The same can be said about Jay-Z "I know they gone criticize the hook on this song" straight from Money, Cash, Hoes. Also, a band called the Beatles, first album was pretty vanilla. Love love me do, etc and so on. As opposed to these 50 cent lyrics which show talent: Comin up I was confused my momma kissin a girl Confusion occurs comin up in the cold world Daddy ain't around probably out commitin felonies My favorite rapper used to sing ch-check out my melody I wanna live good, so should I sell dope for a fo-finger ring Money and them gold ropes Santa told me if I pass could get a sheep skin coat If I can move a few packs and get the hat, now that'd be dope Tossed and turned in my sleep at night Woke up the next morning n****s done stole my bike Different day same s***, ain't nothing good in the hood I'd run away from this b**** and never come back if I could ... Notice how this song is not in the gangster mentality. It takes on real problems of the hood. 1) His father was not around (out committing felonies) showing the importance of a male role model for young children, even 50 cent. 2) He was living in poverty and had to make his own money to get things he wanted. Arguably selling drugs is a bad thing, but it shows that he had to make his own way, and that no one was going to give him anything. 3) Aint nothing good in the hood. Deglamorizes the hood mentality, showing that while rappers may sing about it, if he had his choice he would not live there. But then again, you probably have heard; In the Club, Candy Shop, and the rest of the crap they play on the radio. (EDIT) I'm sure an 8 year old with Downs could write the lyrics for an entire 50 Cent album Hammerhead, this is an implied statement that the poster could write better lyrics than 50 cent. Since an 8 year old with downs could not post on this board or even write a coherent statement, it is saying that everyone on this board can write better lyrics than 50. It is that statement that I responded to. As for its hyperbolic character, perhaps it was, perhaps it was not. I stand by my statement that those who say they can rap better than 50 are mistaken, and it is not as easy as they claim. To those who just have an opinion that 50 sucks, thats fine. Everyone is entiteld to their opinion, thats not the point Im trying to make. The point is, its very easy to say some one has no talent and that you can do better, but it is much harder to actually go out there and do it. hammerhead johnson
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) His favorite rapper was excellent 50 Cent's favorite rapper is Rakim, and here are the lyrics for "My Melody" (Ch-Check Out My Melody reference) Turn up the bass, check out my melody, hand out a cigar I'm lettin knowledge be born, and my name's the r A-k-i-m not like the rest of them, i'm not on a list That's what i'm sayin, i drop science like a scientist My melody's in a code, the very next episode Has the mic often distortin, ready to explode I keep the mic in fahrenheit, freeze mc's and make em colder The listener's system is kickin like solar As i memorize, advertise, like a poet Keep you goin when i'm flowin, smooth enough, you know it But rough that's why the middle of my story i tell e.b. Nobody beats the "r", check out my melody... Verse two: So what if i'm a microphone fiend addicted soon as i sing One of these for mc's so they don't have to scream I couldn't wait to take the mic, flow into it to test Then let my melody play, and then the record suggest That i'm droppin bombs, but i stay peace and calm Any mc that disagree with me just wave your arm And i'll break, when i'm through breakin i'll leave you broke Drop the mic when i'm finished and watch it smoke So stand back, you wanna rap? all of that can wait I won't push, i won't beat around the bush I wanna break upon those who are not supposed to You might try but you can't get close to Because i'm number one, competition is none I'm measured with the heat that's made by sun Whether playin ball or bobbin in the hall I just writin my name in graffiti on the wall You shouldn't have told me you said you control me So now a contest is what you owe me Pull out your money, pull out your cut Pull up a chair, and i'ma tear s*** up My name is rakim allah, and r & a stands for "ra" Switch it around, but still comes out "r" So easily will i e-m-c-e-e My repetition of words is "check out my melody" Some bass and treble is moist, scratchin and cuttin a voice And when it's mine that's when the rhyme is always choice I wouldn't have came to ?set? my name ?around the? same weak s*** Puttin blurs and slurs and words that don't fit In a rhyme, why waste time on the microphone I take this more serious than just a poem Rockin party to party, backyard to yard Now tear it up, y'all, and bless the mic for the gods Verse three: The rhyme is rugged, at the same time sharp I can swing off anything even a string of a harp Just turn it on and start rockin, mind no introduction Til i finish droppin science, no interruption When i approach i exercise like a coach Usin a melody and add numerous notes With the mic and the r-a-k-i-m It's a task, like a match i will strike again Rhymes are poetically kept and alphabetically stepped Put in order to pursue with the momentum except I say one rhyme and i order a longer rhyme shorter A pause, but don't stop the tape recorder Verse four: I'm not a regular competitor, first rhyme editor Melody arranger, poet, etcetera Extra events, the grand finale like bonus I am the man they call the microphonist With wisdom which means wise words bein spoken Too many at one time watch the mic start smokin I came to express the rap i manifest Stand in my way and i'll lead a ??? words protest Mc's that wanna be dissed they're gonna Be dissed if they don't get from in fronta All they can go get is me a glass of moet A hard time, sip your juice and watch a smooth poet I take 7 mc's put em in a line And add 7 more brothas who think they can rhyme Well, it'll take 7 more before i go for mine And that's 21 mc's ate up at the same time Easy does it, do it easy, that's what i'm doin No fessin, no messin around, no chewin No robbin, no buyin, bitin, why bother This slob'll stop tryin fightin to follow My unusual style will confuse you a while If i was water, i flow in the nile So many rhymes you won't have time to go for your's Just because of a cause i have to pause Right after tonight is when i prepare To catch another sucka duck mc out there Cos my strategy has to be tragedy, catastrophe And after this you'll call me your majesty My melody... That's the type of hip hop that I respect, right there. Too bad that 50 Cent couldn't learn anything from his "favorite rapper".

Soxbadger
Hammerhead, Good you get my point. If you take 1 track, or a few songs and then use that to describe the artist as a whole, you can pretty much make whatever point you want. Now would I say the whole Beatles collection versus 50 would be a good comparison? Of course not, but you could make the same arguments about the Beatles as you could about 50. They wrote songs to sell them to start, and then they began to write songs for themselves later on. You cant start off at the White Album and Abbey Road, and then move back towards mainstream. Very rarely do artists start off non-mainstream, so 50 made a mainstream album cause otherwise he would of probably sold thousands compared to millions. The point of his industry is to sell records, in that regard he did a pretty good job. SB

It's all MTV hype that suburban white kids are spending their allowance on. 50 piggy-backed off of eminem. eminem was hyped up for being white, and has basically been more about the hype than the actual product... I liken them to cubs "fans" who know nothing about baseball but crown the urinal because it's the "cool" and fashionable yuppy north-sider thing to do...
