Chisoxfn
I just saw a commercial about it and had no clue they were starting a new ESPN station. This one is gonna be all about college sports. Sounds like a really cool idea. I'd like to see htem televise some smaller schools basketball programs and of course other random sports. I also think it be very neat if they televised some college baseball games during the season.
santo=dorf
I recall seeing this on the ticker on ESPNEWS back in November. I would like to see college baseball too.
Kalapse
They've been running those 10 second marching thing commercials for a few months now. It's like a marching band that comes together to make a U.
BridgeportHeather
I get ISU alumni email newspapers weekly, and they mentioned something of this nature. Apparently, they will be feeding this to campus dorms, as well as dining centers, for no extra charge; however, the article also stated it won't be available on standard/basic cable. I guess you must have either a dish or digital cable with ESPN U as a selected channel. I guess it would be cool to see some ISU games, since that's hard to do outside of Bloomington/Normal. I'm sure its one of those things that will eventually appear if people want it. I know ESPN News isn't on standard cable out where we are but we have digital cable (how else could I watch all the Sox games, lol) so its included in that package which is nice. Palehosefan
This is what is part of ESPN getting in trouble for being a possible monopoly. There was already a station that was running this type of stuff called college sports tv or cstv I believe it is, but ESPN is stealing their idea and will likely put them out of business simply because they have more money. Instead of buying out CSTV and keeping the employees around, they are microsofting them and getting rid of competition. I like the new channel, I just hate how it came about. Chisoxfn
Technically I just learned that Fox Sports offers this type of thing to. I guess they have like Fox College Sports South, West and like midwest or something. Saw the commercial today. I think I have the channels and never knew what they were, but I remember being able to watch some SEC baseball games on it last year. knightni
ESPN will either kill or take over CSTV. Just like they took over Classic Sports Network and turned it into ESPN Classic.
IlliniKrush
Jason, you've really been living under a rock if you just found out about ESPN U...

Just like they took over Classic Sports Network and turned it into ESPN Classic. Sad thing is, Classic Sports Network was better before ESPN bought it. Now, I rarely watch it. Gene Honda Civic
QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 02:02 AM) Sad thing is, Classic Sports Network was better before ESPN bought it. Now, I rarely watch it. I never saw CSN, but I can pretty much guarantee ESPN U will be better than the alternative. ESPN already has their Full Court(NCAA Basketball?) and Gameday(football) packages, that they will pull some content from. Plus they have ESPNplus, which should remain the same for home markets, (i.e. U of I/NW/Purdue/rest of the big ten on WCIU) but some games would get picked up nationally on ESPNU. Spiff
ESPn made this channel because they were being accused of warehousing (buying up rights to everything and then only showing small amounts of it, but keeping the competition out of contention). I think they have a contract to broadcast like 30 college championships but you rarely see anything besides college basketball or football on their networks.
