Sox vs San Francisco

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 04:54 PM)
I know one thing. Everything i have seen about the sox bringing him back and giving him a raise laughed at it. Timo's ops+ last year was 58 which is just disgusting and his warp is virtually non existent. His three win shares are awesome too.

Ok, and do any of those Bill James stats crap take into account his throw out of Bret Boone to end that game in September, or his bunt with the bases loaded to tie the Twins game just to name a few great Timo moments? Do you think any of those statheads actually watched as many Sox games as you or me last year?

Maybe the Yankees should release A-Rod. I mean, does he really deserve $18 million?

What were the positives of the game and negatives? I think we need to give those to the people who don't feel like reading 22 pages and wasting 20 min. of our lives doing so.

From what I saw from the regulars, we looked pretty good for ST...

Postitives: Lefties looked good. Cotts and Munoz both worked out of jams, then worked scoreless innings on thier own. Kevin Walker looked pretty good.

Rogowski looked impressive; at the plate: good eye, in the field: nice defensive play that turned two, on the bases: showed surprising quickness for such a big guy.

JoBo: As many HRs today as the rest of the Sox have in all of ST.

Negatives:4 outs on the basepaths. It's pretty tough to win baseball games when you're giving away outs. Today was like playing 7.2 innings vs. San Fran's 9..

Also the 3-run single off of KRod to tie the game, a game-tying home run off Benitez in Pro Player, and toying with Zambrano on the basepaths to trigger a Crede home run. For a bench player, he made the difference in a handful of games in 2004. We pay almost 1,000,000 per win anyway.

2 questions:

How much has the White Sox organization paid both Timo/Borchard?

Who has done more for the organization?

Answer these and you might understand why I got upset.

The stats are not crap because you either do not like them or understand them. Of course i do not think a-rod ever deserved that much money.

The games are not played on paper. You learn more about baseball by watching what goes on during the game, not staring at a box score putting together equations to come up with a new stat.

Baseball is a game, not a damn science.

I completely agree with that, however everyone is entitled to their opinion and there is really no reason to argue over someone else's opinion because in most instances it just won't change. This whole Timo thing needs to be put to rest.

His numbers still suck. We could have signed someone for league mininum and they would have put up numbers like his. He is a waste of one million dollars.

Qwerty, I gave you the raw numbers, not complex Bill James multiply by 3 s***. Find someone one for a million dollars or less with these numbers to be used for our bench.

:headshake

Find someone who had 8 assists and 4 DP in 615 IP, and batted .412 with runners in scoring position and two outs.

Timo Perez (career RISP)

289 AB

.318 AVG

.350 OBP

3 HR

125 RBI

20 BB

28 K

men on two outs: .289 BA, .710 OPS

man on third less than two outs: .462 BA, .990 OPS

I have yet to hear an answer to one of my other questions too.

"Who gives a f*** how much Timo is making? We filled all of our holes, and KW has said that there will be money to spend at the deadline if we need it."

When Timo had most consistent playing time and was not a bench player (2002), he had an OPS+ of 106 in 136 games.

In my opinion, Borchard won't have an OPS+ over 100 for an entire season in the majors.

I wasn't directing my comment at you, just in general. I guess I'm just tired of the whole Timo discussion.

No offense Rowand, but you don't have to participate if you don't want to. I just think the joking about him has gone a little too far.

the argument for borchard is his upside..... also Borchard is a switch hitter which always helps your cause.  And we dont pay Borchard a million dollars

Helps valentin alot huh?

Yes, timo has done more for this team never said he didn't. Borchard got a ridiculous bonus when he signed in my opinion. I thought that at the time they gave it to him too.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 04:29 PM)
No I don't think he's overpaid because 1.) he was the only guy who could bunt on our team, and 2.) we filled all of our holes within our budget.  Why b**** about a $150,000 raise for a guy who was clutch last season?  Are you related to Reinsdorf?

1. He was our best bunter but how much is that saying?

2. True, but why if we insist on having another outfielder ( even though gload would fill in the fifth outfielder just fine) why not sign someone for league mininum?

Do i really have to answer that last question?

Also, i could have sworn i just said ''borchard>timo?'' I never said borchard in better than timo. Hell, i think borchard blows just like most anyone else.

eh valentin didnt have much upside try reading all of it b4 you critisize one part.

Um, lots of people cannot switch hit it is nothing too be ashamed of. I don't think him being a switch hitter makes his value ( or lack there of) any better or worse. Age shouldn't matter that is why i named valentin.
