Jason bay is a perfect 20-20 at stealing bases this year. One away from setting the record for most perfect in a season.

And they offered him a nice new deal;

The Pirates have offered a long-term deal to outfielder Jason Bay, who is not eligible for free agency until after the 2009 season.

It's probably not a deal that would buy out any years of free agency. A gutsy move from the Pirates would be to offer him the same kind of six-year, $50 million contract Pat Burrell received prior to 2003. That's hardly their style, though.

Tony clark's contract has some odd perks to it...

Tony Clark: signed deal for 2005 season worth 750K on 1/24/05- + signed 2-year EXTENSION thru 2007 season worth 2.068M on 8/5/05- + as part of the extension, he receives a complete NO-TRADE clause for the remainder of the 2005 season and all of 2006, but not in 2007- + he receives 250K assignment bonus in 2007 if traded- + as part of the contract, a charity will have: use of the owner's suite at BOB for 4 home games and a total of 1,000 tickets to regular-season home games- + as part of the contract, the D-Backs will issue $10 food vouchers for 34 underprivileged children at 34 regular-season games- + as part of the contract, two scholarships of $7,500 each in Clark's name will be given out for the club's annual scholarship program- + as part of the contract, 2,000 tickets to regular season games will be distributed for use by families of military personnel serving overseas from Luke Air Force Base- + as part of the contract, the D-Backs will make a $5,000 donation to a Little League in Arizona and working with MLB's annual equipment drive; will also work to develop other community charitable projects such as those involving the police and fire departments- + if Clark is traded, the above charitable obligations still must be completed by the D-Backs Agent: John Boggs Service Time: 8.144

I asked in the game thread but it was passed up. Who is the last pitcher with lets say 20 or more games started to have more wins than walks?

Didn't David Wells have a season like that with the Yankees?

My 2nd guess would be Radke.

Ah--nothing more satisfying than another postseason without the Oakland Athletics. No more moneyball schills to deal with. Jim Rome and Dan Berstein must be devastated with this news. And Hawk? Couldn't be happier.

OH, BUT BEANE STILL IS A GENIUS FOR DOING MORE WITH THIS CLUB THAN ANYONE IMAGINED. THEY REBOUNDED NICELY AFTER A POOR APRIL AND MAY! 2007 WORLD CHAMPIONS!

Astros signed second baseman Craig Biggio to a one-year, $4 million contract extension for 2006.

That's $1 million more than he made this year. Biggio finished with 40 doubles and a career-high 26 home runs, but he also had a .325 OBP that was his lowest ever. That OBP dropped to .296 in road games, and he also hit 19 of his 26 homers at Minute Maid. Chris Burke doesn't belong in the outfield, so even though it's good for public relations, the Astros probably aren't helping themselves by bringing back Biggio for another year. Indians GM Mark Shapiro said today that he will offer a multiyear contract to free-agent-to-be Kevin Millwood.

Millwood, who made $7.25 million this season, is going to command at least three years and $24 million. Given the scarcity of quality pitching out there, it'd be a surprise if he goes for less than $27 million over three years or $34 million over four. Oct. 4 - 6:33 p

Pitcher Gary Knotts was released and pitcher Sean Douglass was claimed off waivers Monday by the Indians.

Right-hander Knotts did not pitch last season because of a sore right shoulder after going 7-6 in 36 games -- including 19 starts -- with a 5.25 ERA in 2004. In three-plus seasons with Detroit and Florida, Knotts is 13-16 with a 5.45 ERA.

Douglass, also a right-hander, was 5-5 last season with a 5.56 ERA in 16 starts and two relief appearances. He has a 7-13 record with a 6.11 ERA with Detroit, Toronto and Baltimore.

Clearing waivers were right-handed pitchers Matt Ginter and Jason Karnuth, left-handed pitchers Doug Creek and Vic Darensbourg and infielder Kevin Hooper. The Tigers outrighted their contracts to Triple-A Toledo. Creek, Darensbourg, Ginter, Karnuth and Hooper elected to become free agents.

Oh Noes!11! Sean Douglass is now with the Tribe!
