Chicagoislife_2003
I really like comin into this room. But sometimes I just don't get u guys. I haven't heard anybody say 1 positive thing about Paul in the month or so I been here. To u guys he's the worst player baseball has ever produced. Now 1st of all the guys has never gotten a chance to play everyday. Hell the guy has never gotten a chance to play every other day. In 1999 he only had 22 at bats so u can't judge anything from that season. With 71 at bats in 2000 he batted .282 with 15 runs scored. In 2001 in a whopping 139 at bats he hit almost .270. And of course he didn't hit for too good of average last year in about 100 at bats. My thing is that I don't see how this guy can be so bad when he's never gotten a chance to play consistently. He runs pretty well for a catcher and is a better player than Mark Johsnon that's for sure. If i'm missing something please let me know...... I can't say that I disagree -- he's probably not nearly as bad as some of us make him out to be. However, there really is no need to have 3 catchers on this team. If Sandy is handled properly, he will not get injured, and we've got Olivo who is supposed to evolve into a great all-around catcher. That said, I really don't see the need to have Josh on the 25-man roster. Having someone like Willie Harris (a faster runner and more versatile player) or Aaron Miles on the team would be more beneficial IMO. Chicagoislife_2003
I totally agree on not having 3 catchers. I would love to see Willie Harris or Arnaldo Munoz up now. I was just tryin to make a point with Paul. I don't know. He's from Illinois so I gotta defend him I guess.

Paul does an adequate job off the bench. The problem is defensively he's very weak behind the plate. He calls a solid game, but isn't adepth at blocking or throwing guys out and he doesn't make up for that deficiency at the plate. My big reason I knock him is because I don't like the idea of having three catchers. I like Olivo a lot and think he brings so much more to the table. I have nothing against Josh though and he seems to do solid when he plays.
Guest hotsoxchick1
hes not the worst player ever chicagoislife ... its just that we have better and we dont need to waste a roster space on him.........we have others who would do better up here instead of wasting away in the minors.......... Jim Fainter
The Sox have been starving for a big time catcher for years, years, and Paul has been given opportunities to step up. Having said sthat, I'm sure every Sox fan on this board is still pulling for him to do well.
