BridgeportHeather
What a bad trade that ended up being...It's unfortunate that he had to suck so badly when he was here. Nothing will be written about him in baseball history books.
The Critic
Is it true that two runners scored and another advanced to third during his retirement announcement? Good riddance to bad rubbish. The suckiest suck who ever sucked.
qwerty
QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Nothing will be written about him in baseball history books. Worst trades of all time possibly?

I know it is not the worst of all time. But it is definitely worthy of a mention.
BridgeportHeather
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Worst trades of all time possibly? That goes to the Toronto Blue Jays for trading David Wells to us for Mike Sirotka. You can say all you want about how poorly Wells pitched for us, but when what you get in return doesn't even throw one pitch for you, you got yourself fleeced! jackie hayes
At least he finally retired somebody. He's got to be -- what's the word I'm looking for? oh wait -- relieved... Almost like deja vu, isn't it?
witesoxfan
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Worst trades of all time possibly? Looking back in hindsight, probably not. Losing Kip hurt, but Fogg is mediocre, and Lowe has been s***ty everywhere since. What would have been worse was if the Sox kept Ritchie for another year or two, and he still continued to suck. Atleast KW accepted his f***up and moved on. It was very bad...but I wouldn't say one of the worst of all time.
TLAK
From MLB.Com BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -- Right-hander Todd Ritchie announced his plans to retire on Monday, after missing nearly two seasons because of a right shoulder injury. Ritchie won 15 games for the Pirates in 1999 and was their Opening Day starter in 2001. He returned to the organization in January, agreeing to a minor league contract, and was competing for the fifth spot in the rotation when he decided to cut short his comeback bid. "We respect his decision," said manager Lloyd McClendon. "He felt from a physical standpoint that he couldn't continue." The 33-year-old was 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in three appearances this spring. In his final start, on Saturday, he allowed four hits, three walks and three runs in 2 2/3 innings. Ritchie had rotator cuff surgery in June 2003 and spent last season rehabbing in the Devil Rays' system. He made four appearances with Tampa Bay in September, but lost both of his starts. In 184 career games, Ritchie had a 43-54 record and a 4.71 ERA with five Major League teams. He enjoyed most of his success with the Pirates from 1999 to 2001, going 35-32 with a 4.29 ERA in 92 games. Ritchie was traded to the White Sox after going 11-15 in 2001. Pittsburgh acquired two mainstays of their rotation, Kip Wells and Josh Fogg, in the trade. "When Todd was with us, he competed well," said McClendon. "He performed at an extremely high level. I was very appreciative of how he went about his business." I told you he was hurt.
